Job Opportunity: Medical Physicist

Location: San Francisco, California
Employment Type: Locum Tenens (W2)
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Work Schedule: 8-hour day shifts


Job Description

Seeking a Medical Physicist with experience in a clinical radiation oncology department. Responsibilities include machine troubleshooting, providing clinical presence for linac-based radiation therapy patients, weekly and final chart checks, plan checks for external beam plans, linac quality assurance (QA), and collaborating with service engineers on machine issues. The role involves working with a diverse patient population, including in-patient palliative care.


Required Qualifications

  • American Board of Radiology (ABR) certification in diagnostic or therapeutic medical physics.
  • Eligibility to be authorized as a Calibration Physicist with the State of California.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in radiation oncology medical physics (preferred; minimum 2 years required, but higher experience preferred).
  • Master's degree in an applied science or medical physics training in a radiation oncology program; PhD preferred.
  • Experience with linac QA and troubleshooting.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Experience working in a clinical practice with a mix of patients, including in-patient palliative patients.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Truebeam linear accelerators.
  • Familiarity with RayStation treatment planning system, Aria Oncology Information System, and MIM software.
  • ABR certification required.
  • ACRT accreditation experience is a plus.

Licensure

  • Must meet California state requirements to be authorized as a Calibration Physicist.

Additional Requirements

  • No privileging needed; can start ASAP within 3 weeks.
  • Must complete required credentialing and compliance documentation, including but not limited to:
    • Social Security Card
    • Driver’s License/State ID
    • HIPAA training and forms
    • Health screenings and vaccinations (TB, flu, COVID-19, MMR, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tdap)
    • Drug testing and physical exam (initial privileging only)
    • Malpractice coverage documentation (current and past)
    • Case logs (for recent graduates)
    • CV and work history verification
    • Professional license copies and DEA (if applicable)
    • Cybersecurity and HIPAA training annually
