Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 2 years of experience on a cardiac floor. This is a night shift position (36 hours only) with patient ratios varying by acuity (1:4 for surgical step down, 1:5-6 for lower acuity). The role involves working on cardiac telemetry and stepdown units with responsibilities including sheath removal, dysrhythmia management, cardiac drip titration, and care of patients post cardiac procedures.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in North Carolina
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Cardiac PCU (Progressive Care Unit)
- Cardiac PCU experience within the last year
- 24 months or more of total travel nursing experience
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Preferred Qualifications
- Arterial line management
- Wound care/Wound Vac experience
- Charge nurse experience
Patient Diagnoses & Procedures
- Common diagnoses: Atrial Fibrillation, CHF, ACS, CAD, valvular diseases, endocarditis, cardiomyopathy, PVD/PAD, vasculitis, carotid stenosis, venous stasis.
- Procedures: CABG, AVR, MVR, TAVR, Mitral Clip, LAAO (Watchman), VATS, carotid endarterectomy, vascular bypasses, amputations, cardiac and thoracic surgeries, post cath care, DCCV, electrophysiology procedures, pacemaker placements.
Unit Details & Equipment
- Equipment: Arterial lines (optional), Doppler, bladder scanner, EKG, femoral sheaths, TR band, Fem-stop, chest tubes, epicardial pacing wires.
- Unit systems: Pyxis medication system, EPIC documentation, SBAR communication.
- Orientation: 24 hours
- Scrubs: Navy
Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
- Background checks including local, federal, national criminal databases, sex offender search, education verification, and state-specific registry checks.
- Drug screening within 30 days of start (10-panel, negative result required).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start; if past positive TB, additional requirements apply.
- Fit testing for N95 mask or completion of PAPR training required.
- Immunizations and titers required: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B (or facility-specific declination), seasonal flu vaccine or approved exemption.
- Mandatory completion of facility-specific orientation modules and compliance training.
- Must complete medication safety training and pass medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam must be passed with 82% or higher within 72 hours of assignment acceptance.
- Required to complete facility confidentiality agreements, dress code acknowledgments, and other facility-specific documents prior to start.
Work Schedule & Other Details
- Shift: Nights only, 36 hours per week
- Contract length: 13 to 26 weeks accepted
- Weekend requirement: 4 weekends per 4 weeks (flexible)
- Float: Follows unit rotation, not first to float
- Must be available for disaster response teams (Storm/Hurricane Team)
Notes for Candidates
- RTO (Return to Office) after booking is not allowed and cannot be worked out onsite. Call-offs or additional RTO may result in cancellation.
- Interview required prior to offer.
- Candidates must provide a passport-style photo for badge creation following specific guidelines.
- Candidates must complete all required onboarding and compliance documentation timely to avoid start delays.
This position is ideal for experienced cardiac telemetry nurses comfortable with complex cardiac patient care and who meet the required certifications and competencies. Prior travel experience is required unless the candidate has extensive cardiac floor experience.
