Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Description

  • Work schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours (07:00 - 19:30)
  • Work every other weekend and holidays as needed
  • Will float to other MedSurg units when needed
  • Facility type: Short term acute care hospital, Level II Trauma Center
  • Charting system: EPIC

Required Certifications and Licenses

  • Registered Nurse license valid in Connecticut
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • Chemotherapy certification (ONS/ONCC) required
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric units, NICU, Labor and Delivery)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., TNCC for ER, PALS, NRP)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse license in Connecticut
  • Minimum of 1 year of oncology experience, with oncology experience within the last year
  • BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • Chemotherapy certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric specialties, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum (Tdap declination accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation (no annual update required unless positive history)
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella (with booster requirements and medical exemption process)
  • 10 panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or medical/religious exemption required during flu season (09/01 - 03/31)
  • COVID vaccination preferred

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Oncology
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in specialty (based on certification and job description)
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Additional Notes

  • Must provide a 7-year work history with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Work history verification required for all start dates on/after 8/2/2024
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure required for certain units (not specifically Oncology but may apply if assigned)
