Job Opportunity: Oncology Chemo Certified Registered Nurse
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks
Job Summary
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (Oncology, Acute Leukemia and Hematology)
- Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics
- Primary Patient Diagnoses: Newly diagnosed acute leukemia patients
- Staffing Ratios: Goal 1:4, can be 1:5
- Schedule: 12-hour day/night or night shifts, rotating; self-scheduling requests accepted before finalizing
- Orientation:
- Week 1: Monday-Friday dayshift
- Week 2: 36 hours on-unit orientation with preceptor
- Shift assignments reviewed every 4 weeks; changes based on staffing needs
- Focus Areas: Infection prevention protocols, patient falls prevention
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years oncology nursing experience, including hematology experience
- Oncology experience within the last year
- Experience working with adult and geriatric patient populations
- Telemetry experience including monitoring and interpretation of dysrhythmias
- Medical-Surgical/Telemetry experience
- Use of Rapid Response Teams
- Feeding tube care and management
- IV therapy and phlebotomy skills
- Blood product administration
- Central line blood draws
- Peripheral line care and management
- PICC line management
- Starting IVs
- One completed travel nursing assignment
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- ONS Chemotherapy Certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Computerized charting experience with EPIC
Required Background and Compliance Checks
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education accreditation verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA)
- State license verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification for RN license
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Immunizations and health requirements:
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
- TB questionnaire
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption allowed)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
- Annual background check required by Aya Healthcare
- Fingerprinting: Ohio BCI & FBI fingerprinting required with specific code; must be completed within 1 year of start
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
Competency Exams
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (required prior to start)
- Unit-specific competency exam
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required, including at least one from a manager or formal leadership
- Employment application required, including education verification
- Skills checklist required
Notes
- Candidates must not be first-time travelers; prior travel experience is required.
- Shift flexibility is necessary due to rotating day/night schedule and staffing needs.
- Heavy emphasis on infection control and patient safety protocols.
This position is ideal for experienced oncology nurses with chemo certification looking for a travel contract in a specialized hematology/oncology setting.
