Cytotechnologist (Travel/Contract) - San Francisco, CA

Job Summary

  • Perform pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic procedures on biological specimens in the laboratory.
  • Maintain competence in all Cytology practices with advanced training.
  • Screen up to 80 GYN specimens per day.
  • Deliver accurate laboratory results in a timely manner to aid healthcare providers in diagnosis, treatment, monitoring, and prevention of disease.

Location & Shift

  • Location: San Francisco, California
  • Shift: Day shift, 5 days per week, 8 hours per day (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM)
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Cytotechnologist license in California.
  • Minimum 2 years of Cytotechnologist experience.
  • Cytotechnologist experience within the last year.

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including SSN trace with all aliases, county searches, nationwide sex offender search, education verification, and other regulatory screenings.
  • Annual updates required for EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, and FACIS Level 3 screenings.
  • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids due to California law).
  • Full 7 years of verifiable work history with no gaps over 30 days; employment verification required.
  • TB screening questionnaire within 90 days of start, renewed annually.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start; some units require annual renewal.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start, renewed annually (with accommodations considered for religious exemptions or failed tests).
  • Immunizations and titers required: Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years), Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella, and seasonal flu vaccination during flu season.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 90 days of start, renewed annually.
  • Respiratory safety clearance prior to start, renewed annually.

Certifications

  • Maintain current ASCP Cytologist certification and California Cytotechnologist licensure.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA or ARC).
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), and other certifications as applicable to position may be required—verify with employer.

  • Candidate must review and sign facility-specific documents including job description, standards of business conduct, code of conduct, vendor training, overpayment refund policy, and regulatory orientation prior to start.
  • Completion of a conditional offer of employment attestation prior to start.

  • References: 2 professional references required within 3 years for clinical/allied/per diem acute care roles.
