Labor and Delivery Nurse (Night Shift) - Travel/Contract

Location: Morganton, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit and Work Environment

• 16 LDRP rooms, C-section Suite, PACU on L&D unit, and 4-bed Special Care Nursery
• Closed specialty unit focused exclusively on Family Center patients; no floating to other units required
• Growing support staff including preadmit nurse, discharge planner/case worker, maternity navigator, unit educator, and lactation consultant
• Strong emphasis on process improvement and best practices in maternal and infant care
• Participation in innovative programs such as Eat, Sleep, Console for infants with withdrawal symptoms, validated prenatal screening tools, safe sleep initiatives, mental health expansion, Narcan education, and upcoming projects on late preterm infant care and obstetrical sepsis

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience, with experience within the last year required
• Experience working with Maternal-Fetal patients and Maternal-Newborn care
• Certifications required:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
  • National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS)

Required Documentation and Compliance

• Background checks including 7-year criminal history, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
• Official transcript or copy of transcript (diplomas not accepted)
• Primary source verification of state license and NURSYS verification
• Physical exam attesting ability to meet physical demands (annual, unless no 30-day break in service)
• Fit testing for N95 masks within 1 year of start
• Immunizations and titers required or proof of vaccination/declination for:

  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• Annual TB questionnaire
• 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually during flu season (Oct 1 – Mar 31)
• Respiratory safety clearance required annually
• Minimum of 2 clinical references dated within 1 year
• Completed employment application/resume and skills checklist
• Facility-specific documents including photo for badge, confidentiality statement, new hire information, personal commitment to culture, conflict of interest disclosure, and job description acknowledgment

• This position requires specialized L&D and mother/baby nursing experience; prior travel experience is not explicitly required
• The unit is focused on family-centered care and continuous quality improvement initiatives
• Nurses are supported by a multidisciplinary team and are not expected to float outside the specialty unit
