Job Opportunity: Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse

Location: Oakland, California
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day (4x10 hours), 8:00 AM – 6:30 PM
Contract Length: 14 weeks


Job Description

  • Work 10-hour day shifts with variable start times.
  • May rotate to Pre-Op or PACU units.
  • Ability to float to other facilities within the health system is required.

Required Qualifications

  • California Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience.
  • Current AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Current Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
  • Ability to provide two supervisory references from recent employment.
  • Current and updated resume covering the last 7 years of work history (explain gaps of 30+ days).
  • Unit-specific skills checklist, updated annually.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Post Anesthesia Nurse (CPAN) certification.

Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) AHA certification required for many clinical areas (not specifically required for this role but generally expected in related units).
  • Pass/Fail Telemetry and Medication exams required on first day of orientation for nurses in specified units.
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam with a passing score of 80% or higher, completed within one year prior to start.
  • Unit-specific competency exam with a passing score of 80% or higher, completed within one year prior to start.
  • Core Parts I, II, and III competency exams with passing scores of 80% or higher, completed within one year prior to start and updated annually.
  • Acknowledgement of Pass/Fail Testing required for all RNs.

Background & Verification Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check including specific counties and nationwide checks, completed within 30 days of start and renewed annually.
  • Education verification or copy of diploma/transcript.
  • Employment verification covering 7 years, matching resume. Attestations considered only after multiple verification attempts, but not for most recent employment.
  • Drug testing: Standard 9-panel (excluding THC), negative results required within 30 days of start, re-run every 2 years.
  • Primary source license verification within 30 days of start.
  • NURSYS verification for RN license within 30 days of start.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including physician statement of fitness to work.
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific approved mask types required), updated annually.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years (declinations not accepted except with medical exemption).
  • Two negative TB tests required: one within 1 year and one within 3 months of start (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-Spot). Annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Immunity or vaccination documentation required for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella (IGG titer or 2 vaccines; history of disease not accepted)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or facility-specific declination required during flu season (Nov-April).
  • COVID-19 vaccination is strongly recommended but not required as of current policy.

Additional Requirements & Information

  • Completion of facility-specific learning modules prior to or on Day 1 of orientation.
  • Completion of Cyber Security Awareness Training and Quiz annually.
  • Completion of HIPAA Healthcare Provider Module and Quiz annually.
  • Emergency contact information must be provided.
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) training may be required for some units.
  • Pass/Fail Telemetry exam required for nurses working in telemetry and critical care units.
  • Candidates must review and comply with COVID-19 preparedness and related questionnaires prior to start.
  • Parking and uniform policies must be reviewed and acknowledged before starting.

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
  • Floating to other facilities within the health system is a job expectation.
  • All certifications must be current and issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) unless otherwise specified.
