ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract) - Chicago, Illinois

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - ICU
  • Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Hours per week: 36 hours guaranteed
  • Contract length: 13 weeks
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (2 weekends per month)
  • Call requirements: None
  • Time off (RTO) policy:
    • Maximum 5 days off with no more than 2 consecutive days
    • No time off allowed on holidays, weekends, or the day before/after a holiday
  • Floating: Mandatory float within scope to various ICU units (Burn ICU, CCU, Medical ICU, SICU, Neuro ICU) and possibly to medical-surgical units as needed
  • Orientation: First week on day shift for orientation and precepting

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
  • Minimum 2 years of recent ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Background checks:
    • Must be completed within 12 months prior to start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
    • Includes SSN trace, nationwide and state-specific searches, sex offender registry, and others as applicable
    • Illinois fingerprinting required if indicated by state reports
  • Health documents:
    • Physical exam within 12 months, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
    • Negative TB test (QGold or TSPOT) within 12 months, updated annually (PPD not accepted after 12/15/2025)
    • Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination (declination must be within 12 months)
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if low titer
    • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if low titer
    • Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination (declination within 1 year)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - May 4)
    • Fit mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year; exemptions require approval for onsite PAPR use
    • Negative 9-panel drug screen within 90 days of start, updated annually
  • Competency exams:
    • Medication test/pharmacology competency exam (required within 12 months prior to start)
    • Color blind testing (required within 12 months prior to start)
    • General competency exam (required within 12 months prior to start)

Additional Notes

  • References are not required by the facility but must follow state requirements for RNs
  • Complete employment application/resume required
  • Skills checklist required annually
  • Must comply with facility-specific rules of behavior and complete required facility forms
  • Floating is mandatory to support staffing needs across multiple ICU units and possibly medical-surgical units

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with night shifts, floating across critical care units, and meeting comprehensive compliance and certification requirements.
