Labor & Delivery Unit RN

Overview

• Location: Bangor, Maine
• Contract length: 13 weeks
• Shift: 7P-7A, 12-hour nights
• Hours per week: 36
• Start: ASAP

Required Qualifications

• At least 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience
• Not a first-time traveler; must have completed at least 1 assignment at a facility comparable in size and acuity
• RN license
• BLS
• ACLS
• NRP
• Intermediate or Advanced FHM
• MOAB

Unit Details

• Labor & Delivery unit with Level III NICU and Newborn Nursery support
• Average of 1,800 deliveries per year
• Labor & Delivery has 7 labor rooms, 2 triage rooms, and 2 OR suites
• OBED has 2 triage rooms
• Postpartum/Antepartum/GYN/Mother-Baby has 25 beds
• May float to Mother Baby, Antepartum, Postpartum, or occasionally Mother-Baby
• Fetal monitoring is remote at bedside and at the nurses station

Key Responsibilities

• Titrate Pitocin
• Perform fetal scalp electrodes and cervical exams
• Assist CRNA with epidural placement
• Manage insulin drips and magnesium drips
• Manage shoulder dystocia
• Circulate c-sections and/or receive baby in the OR
• Perform neonatal resuscitation
• Assist with placement and monitoring of IUPC
• Provide lactation support and safe skin-to-skin care
• May be responsible for documenting feeds, vitals, and baby assessments when mother remains on unit for continuous surveillance

Scheduling

• Weekend rotation: works at least 4 of 8 weekend shifts per schedule
• No call required
• Holiday rotation required
• RTO requires manager approval

Orientation

• 1 day with HR/preceptor
• 1 day of OR training/PACU
• 1 day with preceptor on night shift if contracted to nights
