Registered Nurse - Medical/Surgical/Telemetry (Night Shift)

Location: West Burlington, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (approximately 8 weeks)
Contract Dates: May 18, 2026 – July 12, 2026 (extension possible based on unit needs)


Job Summary

  • Provide nursing care on Medical Surgical and Telemetry units.
  • Deliver care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Collaborate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
  • Patient populations include Geriatric, Medical/Surgical, Adult, and Telemetry.
  • Support the unit during an Epic EMR go-live; Cerner and Epic experience required.
  • Must self-study telemetry strips and pass a basic dysrhythmia test during the first week to work in the Emergency Department.
  • Occasional on-call availability may be required during low census periods; must be able to respond and arrive onsite within one hour if called.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Iowa.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum of 2 years of RN experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Medical Surgical and Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
  • ACLS certification.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
  • Experience with Cerner electronic medical records system.
  • Experience with Epic electronic medical records system.

Health and Compliance Requirements

  • COVID-19 vaccine (declination accepted).
  • MMR: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal.
  • Hepatitis B: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal.
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal.
  • Tdap: Valid within 10 years; declination accepted.
  • Influenza vaccine: Optional but recommended during flu season (Sept 1 – March 31).
  • TB test: Negative test within past year (TSPOT or QuantiFERON IGG) or documentation if history of positive test.
  • Fit test for approved respirators completed prior to start.
  • Health statement/physician statement within last 12 months.
  • Drug screen (9 panel) within 30 days of start.
  • Background checks including adult and child abuse registry, employment verification, and other standard screenings within 30 days of start.

Additional Information

  • Must provide 2 professional references, including at least 1 supervisor reference.
  • Must complete skills checklist within the last 12 months.
  • Must complete Epic registration acknowledgment after registration.
  • Driver’s license or state ID must be current and valid throughout assignment.
  • Pre-orientation computer-based learning acknowledgment required.
  • Background check and other compliance documents must be current and uploaded prior to start.

  • This is a night shift position supporting an Epic EMR go-live.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
  • The assignment length is approximately 8 weeks.
