Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract

Location: Cedar Rapids, Iowa
Facility Type: Level III Trauma Center, Stroke and STEMI certified, combined adult/pediatric ER

Job Details

• Unit: Hospital Emergency Room (37 staffed beds)
• Float: May float to a free-standing 14-bed ER (8 miles away, 5-10 minute drive). No mid-shift floating.
• Schedule: Every 3rd weekend required
• Experience: Minimum 2 years of ER experience
• EMR System: EPIC experience required
• Contract Length: 13 weeks

Required Certifications

• ACLS (American Heart Association)
• BLS (American Heart Association)
• PALS (American Heart Association)
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
• ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – required for psych positions (may apply)

Licensure & Verification

• State nursing license with primary source verification within 30 days of start
• NURSYS verification (if applicable) within 30 days of start
• Education verification through school or National Student Clearinghouse
• Transcript/Diploma required (or official transcript/third party verification as placeholder)

Compliance & Background Checks

• 7-year county background checks, national federal, USA criminal search (if lived outside IA in last 7 years), social security trace, FACIS III, OFAC, OIG/EPLS, National Sex Offender Search, SAM, and others as required
• All background checks must be within 30 days of assignment start
• Iowa SING check required, including all aliases, run directly through Iowa State SING website within 30 days of start

Health & Immunization Requirements

• COVID and Flu vaccination required; exemptions accepted with proper documentation and approval
• Annual physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, DO, NP, ARNP, or PA
• Fit mask test within 12 months (specific 3M N95 mask sizes required)
• Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap booster within 10 years or declination acceptable
• Negative TB test (QuantiFERON gold or TSpot within 90 days) or chest x-ray if positive reactor, plus annual TB questionnaire
• Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or proof of 2 live vaccines at least 28 days apart
• Hepatitis B: Completion of 3-dose series, positive titer, or declination form
• Varicella: Positive titer or proof of 2 live vaccines at least 28 days apart
• 10-panel drug screen including THC within 30 days of start
• Flu vaccination or approved exemption required annually by October 31

Competency Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam with minimum 80% pass rate
• Unit-specific competency exams (including Dysrhythmia/EKG for ER) with minimum 80% pass rate
• Core competency exams (Parts I, II, III) updated annually with minimum 80% pass rate
• Color blindness testing (HRR-Ishihara test) with 100% passing score

Additional Requirements

• Two supervisory references required (one within last year, second within last 2 years) from ER specialty
• Skills checklist for ER and any float units required
• Employment verification for last 7 years with no gaps over 30 days
• Mandatory Reporter training for Child and Adult Abuse through Iowa HHS website, with certification valid 3-5 years depending on completion date
• Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement including HIPAA (expires annually)

• Caribbean Blue Scrubs required for this assignment

• Online modules temporarily completed onsite as of 7/17/2024 (time spent is unpaid)

This position is ideal for experienced ER Registered Nurses comfortable with trauma and pediatric emergencies, who meet strict certification, licensure, and compliance requirements, and are willing to work every third weekend with occasional floating to a nearby ER.
