Registered Nurse – PACU (Night Shift)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Details

• Shift: Night shift, 3 shifts of 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
• Includes weekend and holiday coverage
• No on-call required at this time
• Experience with Level 1 Trauma, telemetry, and ventilators preferred

Required Certifications

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA provider/instructor or RQI accepted
• BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA provider/instructor or RQI accepted
• NIH Stroke Scale Certification (may be required depending on unit; must meet CE hour requirements)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – Required within 1 year of start and updated annually
• Other unit-specific competency exams may be required

Requirements/Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Ohio
• Minimum of 1 year of recent experience in Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU)
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients
• Proficiency in ventilator management
• Telemetry experience

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year confirming good health and free of contagious disease
• Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year, or annual TB questionnaire
• Immunizations/vaccinations required:

  • Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, and Rubella
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination accepted)
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemption requires documentation)
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1–3/31)
• Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
• Annual fit mask test required for inpatient/patient-facing roles starting 7/13/2026 and beyond (specific mask types accepted)
• COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Requirements & Information

• Must complete orientation safety manual acknowledgement annually
• Background checks include EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring monthly
• Fingerprinting must be completed prior to start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days or results are older than 1 year
• Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start
• Dress code and hand hygiene policy must be reviewed and signed for contracts signed 5/19/2025 and beyond
• Confidential Fraud, Waste, and Abuse reporting form and training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
• Unit-specific competency exams and medication tests required
• Dysrhythmia/EKG exam remediation process in place for candidates who do not pass on first attempt

Experience

Summary

This is a night shift travel RN position in PACU requiring 3 twelve-hour shifts per week with weekend and holiday coverage. Candidates must hold an active Ohio RN license, have completed accredited nursing education, and possess current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications. Compliance with extensive background checks, fingerprinting, health screenings, immunizations, and competency exams is mandatory. Experience with trauma, telemetry, and ventilators is preferred.
