Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse

Location: Lebanon, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Per Diem
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Overview

  • Work up to 40 hours per week (no overtime offered)
  • Night shifts: 12 hours (1900-0730)
  • Patient ratio: 1:4
  • Patient age groups: Neonates and Adults
  • Charting system: EPIC (experience required)

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Nurse license valid in Pennsylvania
  • Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery experience
  • Current certifications:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
    • AWHONN Intermediate (Electronic Fetal Monitoring)
  • Epic experience required
  • 2 clinical references and at least 1 leadership reference from assignments within the last year
  • Separation period of 1 year from previous assignment at this facility
  • Must be available and able to commit to 4 shifts per month
  • Commitment to compliance process and deadlines required

Preferred Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • AWHONN Advanced

Required Skills & Clinical Competencies

  • Assist with sterile speculum and vaginal exams (effacement, dilation, station, presentation)
  • Perform NST (Non-Stress Tests) and OCT (Oxytocin Challenge Tests)
  • Reflex checks, edema assessment, clonus
  • Triage of obstetrical patients
  • Use of Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) and Intrauterine Pressure Catheter (IUPC) placement/calibration
  • Management of various maternal and neonatal conditions including:
    • Asthma, cardiac disease, diabetes mellitus, HELLP syndrome, HIV, infectious diseases
    • Malpresentations (breech, face, brow), multiple gestation
    • Placenta previa/abruptio, pre-eclampsia/eclampsia, premature rupture of membranes
    • Preterm labor, RH incompatibilities, seizure disorder, substance abuse, uterine rupture
    • VBAC management/trial of labor
  • Adult and infant/neonatal cardiac arrest response
  • Use of rapid response/code teams
  • Administration of blood and blood products
  • Venous blood draws, central line maintenance (CVC/PICC), IV starts and maintenance
  • Use of infusion pumps, anticoagulation therapy, antihypertensives, antiseizure meds, insulin drips
  • Magnesium sulfate therapy, Pitocin, prostaglandins, terbutaline administration
  • Assist with vaginal delivery, C-section circulation, forceps/vacuum extraction
  • Management of hemorrhage/shock, postpartum hemorrhage, pregnancy-induced hypertension
  • Neonatal care including:
    • APGAR scoring, baby nurse duties (“baby catcher”), cord sample collection, ID/security banding
    • Neonatal resuscitation, radiant warmers, thermoregulation
    • Circumcision assistance and post-op assessment, car seat education, cord care, discharge teaching
    • Infant identification, metabolic screening, neonatal abstinence syndrome, newborn assessment
    • Newborn hypoglycemia, phototherapy, breastfeeding/lactation support
  • Pain management including epidural anesthesia, general anesthesia, IV conscious sedation, opioids, PCA use
  • Episiotomy/incisional care, Foley catheter insertion/management, fundus/lochia/perineum care
  • Use of electric/manual breast pumps, wound assessment/care
  • Couplets care, multiple births, isolation precautions/PPE, vaccine administration
  • Cervical cerclage, D&C procedures

Orientation

  • 1 day of orientation (12 hours), scheduled based on availability
  • Compliance items must be completed timely; no start date delays allowed
  • Shifts access granted only after clearance post-orientation

Required Background and Compliance Checks

  • 7-year criminal background check (including SS trace and county searches) within 30 days of start
  • Pennsylvania State Police PATCH search (must be finalized prior to start)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • PA FBI fingerprinting required within 1 year of start; candidate may start with results pending but must be finalized within 45 days
  • Education verification of highest degree/diploma/transcripts
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse (Childline) search completed 3 business days prior to start and renewed every 5 years
  • Drug testing: Negative 9-panel within 1 year of start (Aya requirement only)

Required Health Documents and Vaccinations

  • Physical exam within 90 days of start, signed by MD, DO, PA, or NPT
  • Fit mask testing within 1 year of start, updated annually (specific mask types required)
  • TDAP vaccine within 10 years of start
  • Negative QGold or TSpot TB test within 90 days of start (PPD not accepted)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Vaccines (2 doses) or positive titer required; boosters required if titers negative/equivocal
  • Hepatitis B: Full vaccine series or positive titer preferred; declination form required for all candidates
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or valid medical/religious exemption required during flu season (declinations not accepted)
  • COVID-19 vaccine, medical/religious exemption, or declination accepted

Additional Requirements

  • Professional references: 2 required within 3 years of start
  • Most recent resume or employment application required
  • Annual skills checklist required
  • Completion of medication/pharmacology competency exam and dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam as applicable
  • Facility-specific documents including badge photo, code of conduct, confidentiality agreement, and health & wellness commitments must be reviewed and signed
  • Completion of assigned Learning Management System (LMS) modules on PC/laptop prior to start date

  • This is a sensitive client; candidates must confirm availability for 4 shifts/month, no conflicting job searches that would interfere with commitment, and prioritization of compliance deadlines
  • No overtime offered for this position
