OB Tech (Surgical Services) - Travel/Contract
Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Assist with obstetric surgery and patient care in Labor & Delivery areas.
- Provide direct patient care activities under supervision of RN or medical provider.
- Support nursing and medical staff with procedures and tests.
- Assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and perform care activities such as specimen collection, phlebotomy, IV insertion, Foley catheter care, and documentation.
- Float to cover Labor & Delivery and Women's Health units.
Schedule
- Rotating 3x12 hour shifts (Day: 6:50 AM – 7:20 PM / Night: 6:50 PM – 7:20 AM)
- Call required: 3 shifts per 6-week period
- Every 3rd weekend required
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of OB Technician experience, including experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one prior travel assignment
- BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Experience working with Maternal-Fetal patients
- Clinic experience
- Labor & Delivery (L&D) experience
- Surgical scrub experience
- Call availability for 3 shifts per 6-week period
- Ability to float to cover Labor & Delivery and Women's Health units
Required Documentation & Compliance
- Valid driver’s license if driving is an essential job function
- Criminal background check within 90 days, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
- I9/E-Verify attestation required prior to start
- Drug screen within 90 days of start (excluding marijuana)
- Annual physical exam confirming ability to work without accommodations and free from communicable disease
- Immunization and health requirements including:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years (preferred)
- Documentation of MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) and Varicella immunity or vaccination
- Hepatitis B titer, series, or signed declination
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption during flu season
- N95 fit test within 9 months of start, updated annually (client may complete onsite if needed)
Certifications & Competencies
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification required for Labor & Delivery candidates; AWHONN acceptable as placeholder if C-EFM not yet completed, but must register for C-EFM course
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start and updated every 3 years (minimum 80% score)
- Color blindness testing required (online or in-person)
- Competency exam required within 3 years of start (minimum 80% score)
Experience & References
- Two positive supervisory references supporting at least 2 years of experience within the last 3 years
- Complete 7 years of work history with no gaps, including education, employment, license, and contact information
Additional Notes
- Must be able to work rotating day and night shifts with weekend and call responsibilities
- Must be flexible to float between Labor & Delivery and Women’s Health units
- Facility-specific orientation modules must be completed prior to start
- Annual safety manual acknowledgement required
