Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Chicago, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Level 1 Trauma Experience required
  • RN must be able to scrub and circulate
  • Experience in the following areas required:
    • Orthopedics (Ortho, Ortho Trauma)
    • Vascular
    • Urology
    • General Surgery
  • Preferred experience in:
    • Neurosurgery (cranial and spine)
    • Open Heart/Thoracic
    • Ophthalmology
    • ENT
    • Bariatric
    • Gynecology
  • On-call requirement:
    • One 12-hour shift per month on a Saturday or Sunday (7 AM - 7 PM or 7 PM - 7 AM)
    • No weekday call
  • Requested Time Off (RTO) policy:
    • Maximum 5 days off with no more than 2 consecutive days
    • No RTO the day before or after a holiday
    • No RTO on weekends

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only, required for all nursing positions
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – AHA only, required for Cath Lab RN, Critical Care Float, Endo/GI Lab RN, ER Tech, RN ICU, IR RN, L&D PACU
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – AHA only, required for ER RN, Interventional Radiology, PACU, Pediatrics, PICU (preferred for ER)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – AHA only, required for L&D, NICU
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy Certification) – Required for Oncology
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – Required for L&D
  • NIH Stroke Certification – Required for RNs in ICU, MICU, SICU, Neuro ICU, ER, Interventional Radiology, L&D, Med Surg, NICU, PACU, PCU/Float, Pediatrics, PICU, Tele; must be updated annually

Required Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (for starts on/after 4/14/24, must be completed within 12 months of start)
  • Color Blind Testing Online (for starts on/after 1/16/24, must be completed within 12 months of start)
  • Competency Exam (for starts on/after 4/14/24, must be completed within 12 months of start)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam (required for EKG Techs, preferred for ER RNs, must be completed within 12 months of start)

Required Background Checks & Verifications

  • Background Check within 12 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • International Background Check if lived/worked internationally in past 7 years
  • Illinois Health Care Worker Registry Search (for aides and nursing assistants only; not required for RNs)
  • Education Verification (only for Unit Secretary)

Required Health Documents

  • Physical Exam within 12 months of start, updated annually, signed by PA, NP, DO, or MD
  • Fit Mask test (N95 or equivalent) within 1 year of start, required annually
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine within 10 years or signed declination within 12 months of start
  • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 12 months of start, updated annually; chest x-ray if positive TB history
  • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer (booster if low titer)
  • Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination within 1 year of start
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer (booster if low titer)
  • Negative 9 Panel Drug Screen within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/01 - 04/01)
  • COVID-19 vaccine NOT required as of 8/21/2025

Additional Requirements

  • Resume, Cover Letter, Skills Checklist, and PSV (Provider Screening Verification) required
  • References: 2 within 2 years preferred but not mandatory to start
  • Complete Employment Application required
  • Annual Skills Checklist required
  • Facility-specific forms must be completed prior to start (e.g., RN HIS Forms)
