Job Description

  • Responsible for assessment, coordination, delivery, and evaluation of nursing care in an acute patient setting.
  • Provides direct patient care, patient/family education, and manages transitions of care.
  • Develops and implements individualized care plans considering psychological, sociocultural, spiritual, economic, and lifestyle factors.
  • Maintains collaborative relationships with patients, families, physicians, and healthcare providers through effective communication.
  • Adheres to hospital policies, industry standards, best practices, and applicable laws to ensure optimal patient experience.

Shift Details

  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12-hour shifts (06:45 - 19:15)
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other Saturday and Sunday; holidays as needed

Required Licensure & Certifications

  • California Registered Nurse (RN) License
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - must be current within 180 days of hire
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - must be current within 180 days of hire
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) - must be current within 90 days of hire
  • EPIC experience required
  • Travel experience preferred

Background & Screening Requirements

  • 7-year background check required within 6 months of start, including:
    • Social Security trace with all aliases
    • County searches for last 7 years of residence/work/school
    • Nationwide sex offender search within 90 days of start
    • Education verification (highest level achieved)
    • FACIS Level 3 screening within 2 weeks of start and monthly thereafter
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks, updated annually
  • Drug screening: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids per CA law)
  • Employment history verification: 7 years of work history with no gaps over 30 days; explanations required for gaps over 1 year
  • Professional references: 2 professional references within 3 years (Aya requirement, not client)

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start (must clear candidate for work)
  • Fit mask test within 1 year, renewed annually (exceptions apply)
  • TB screening: Negative QGold or TSPOT within 90 days of start or 2 PPDs as specified; renewed annually
  • Immunizations or titers required:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (series or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Nov 1 - Apr 30) or signed declination
  • Drug testing: Negative 9-panel drug screen within 6 months of start (excluding marijuana/cannabinoids)

Competency & Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam may be required depending on unit
  • ICU RNs may require additional unit-specific competency exams
  • EKG exam required onsite for ICU RNs at certain locations

Facility-Specific Requirements

  • Passport-style photo for badge
  • Review and sign facility-specific documents including:
    • Job description
    • Standards of Business Conduct
    • Vendor Training (2024 and 2025 versions depending on contract date)
    • Code of Conduct (2024 and 2025 versions depending on contract date)
    • Overpayment Refund Policy (2024 and 2025 versions depending on contract date)
    • General Regulatory Orientation for Contracted Workers
    • TB Questionnaire within 90 days of start, renewed annually
    • Epic Questionnaire (for RNs starting 11/3/2025 and onward)
  • Religious exemption forms required if applicable for PAPR or vaccine exemptions

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must have full 7 years of work history documented in the application including cities and states worked.
  • Conditional clearances are generally not accepted at certain facilities within the system.
  • Candidates with work restrictions must provide documentation; accommodations will be coordinated with Employee Health.
  • Failed fit tests due to facial hair require shaving and retesting; other failures may require PAPR training.
  • Candidates requesting religious exemptions must complete specific facility forms and obtain approval.

This position requires a highly qualified RN with acute care experience, multiple certifications, and compliance with extensive background and health screening protocols. The role involves working 12-hour shifts with weekend and holiday coverage in a hospital acute care setting.
