Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Metairie, Louisiana

Position Summary

Seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse for a travel/contract assignment in adult critical care units. The role involves floating between ICU, ED, PACU, and occasionally Medical Surgical units.

Contract Length

• 13 weeks

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 2 years of ICU nursing experience (higher value confirmed)
• Epic electronic health record experience required
• Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Patient Ratios & Float Requirements

• Patient ratios: 1:1, 1:2, and 1:3 depending on unit and patient acuity
• Floating required to all adult critical care units, ED, PACU, and sometimes Medical Surgical (max 4 patients)
• Weekend shifts required: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
• Holiday shifts required

Unit Description

• Care for patients pre- and post-kidney, liver, and pancreas transplants
• Manage patients with encephalopathy, kidney rejection, acute kidney injury, elevated creatinine, or requiring esophageal tamponade
• Transplant patients remain on unit until discharge
• Staffing ratio for stepped-down transplant patients: 1:3
• Bedside conscious sedation provided
• Equipment used includes: Alaris IV Pumps, CADD PCA pumps, Servo I ventilators, Fresenius CRRT Dialysis machines, NxStage dialysis, Veratron Bladder Scanner, Arctic Sun TMS

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
• NIH Stroke Certification
• CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – can be obtained onsite within 30 days (cost applies)

Preferred Certifications

• OCN (Oncology Certified Nurse)
• CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse)

Attire & Appearance

• Scrubs: Teal, white, or a combination of both
• Closed-toe and heel shoes required
• Name badge must be worn at all times
• No artificial or acrylic nails allowed

Competency Requirements

• Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (annual, must score 80% or higher)
• Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (annual, must score 80% or higher)
• Core competencies (Parts I, II, III) updated annually

Health & Background Requirements

• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes comprehensive panel)
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tdap within 10 years (declinations accepted with proper documentation)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 3 months of start
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required during flu season (exemptions accepted)
• Physical exam not required by facility but may be required by placement agency

Additional Notes

• Employment application must include 7 years of work history with no gaps over 30 days
• Floating assignments may include reassignment to Medical Surgical units as helping hands
• Must comply with facility-specific employee appearance policies and flu declination forms if applicable
