Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Trauma ICU (Travel/Contract)

Location: Ventura, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

Position Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - ICU (Trauma ICU)
  • Shift: 3x12 hour night shifts
  • Patient Population: Adolescents to Geriatrics
  • Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2
  • Float Requirement: Yes, within service line

Experience Requirements

  • Years of Specialty Experience Required: 1 year
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-timers NOT accepted)
  • Trauma Experience: Required

Required Certifications

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BCLS (Basic Life Support)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or TCAR (Trauma Care After Resuscitation)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) or MAB (Management of Assaultive Behavior) - MAB can be a placeholder while obtaining CPI

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Experience in Surgical Intensive Care Unit
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Management of multi-system organ failure
  • IV insulin protocols
  • Care of GI surgery patients
  • Management of chronic and acute renal failure
  • CVVHD/CRRT, shunts, and fistula care
  • Accessing ports and arterial line management
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line care and PICC line management
  • Starting IVs, continuous IV sedation, procedural sedation administration
  • Titration of cardiac and vasoactive drips
  • CVA/acute stroke management
  • Care of external ventricular drains (EVD)
  • Hypothermia protocol/Arctic Sun use
  • ICP monitoring and post-neurosurgery management
  • Spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury care
  • Assistance with chest tube insertion/removal
  • Management of BiPAP/CPAP
  • Ventilator management and care of ventilated patients
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC) use
  • Interpretation of arterial blood gases (ABGs)
  • Suctioning (ETT, NT)
  • Infection prevention, isolation precautions, and PPE use
  • Phlebotomy
  • Care of surgical wounds with drains and wound vac

Additional Requirements

  • Charting Experience: Cerner electronic health record system
  • COVID-19 Vaccination: Required
  • Background Checks: Must be current within 1 year and include multi-level screenings
  • Drug Testing: 10-panel drug screen required within 1 year and updated annually
  • Health Documents: Physical exam, TB testing, immunizations (Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella), flu vaccination or exemption, and COVID vaccination or exemption required
  • Competency Exams: Advanced EKG exam (80% passing score, max 2 attempts), medication/pharmacology competency, age-specific competency, dysrhythmia/EKG competency
  • Orientation and Training: Completion of facility-specific competency validations, trauma education modules (if no current trauma certification), and other required facility documents prior to start
