Job Description

  • Role: RN – Medical-Surgical/Telemetry Float
  • Start Date: Approximately 3-4 weeks from compliance completion
  • Patient Ratios:
    • Days and weekends: 1:5-6
    • Nights: 1:6
  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years as a Registered Nurse
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule minimum (Saturday/Sunday), plus holiday rotation
  • Certifications Required:
    • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • IV Start
    • Telemetry
  • Certifications Preferred: NIH Stroke Certification
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Yes, within scope to meet facility needs
    • Units include medical, surgical, oncology, neuro, renal, and cardiology
    • Float pool workers receive unit assignment up to 1 hour before shift start
  • Block scheduling: Not accommodated
  • Local candidates: Not accepted (75-mile radius rule)
  • Pending License: Accepted
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: No more than 7 days off per 13-week contract
  • Guaranteed Hours: Yes, minimum 3 shifts per 13 weeks

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only

  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., PALS, NRP, TNCC, CPI/MAB, EFM)

Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (must meet passing score)
  • Unit-specific Competency Exam (updated annually)
  • Oncology competency exam required for Med Surg-Oncology unit

Scheduling & Work Conditions

  • Floating across multiple units including medical, surgical, oncology, neuro, renal, and cardiology
  • Weekend shifts and holiday rotations required
  • No block scheduling available
  • Must adhere to facility policies including dress code, hand hygiene, fingernail policy, and HIPAA compliance

Additional Requirements

  • Skills Checklist (unit-specific, including oncology if applicable) within 1 year of start
  • Employment Application required
  • References: Two professional references required (supervisors preferred)
  • Various facility-specific documents and acknowledgments (e.g., HIPAA, confidentiality, latex allergy questionnaire) must be completed prior to start
  • Orientation modules (approx. 16 hours) required for all RNs, completed through online platform
