Job Opportunity: CVOR Tech (Surgical Technologist)
Location: Madison, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 17 weeks (minimum), up to 26 weeks
Job Description
- Start dates: 3/30 or 4/6/2026
- Tier 2 cardiac surgical technologist role
- Strongest skills required in cardiac/thoracic surgery including:
- ECMO
- CABG (Coronary artery bypass graft)
- Ascending aorta procedures
- LVAD
- Thoracic surgery and thoracic robot Davinci Xi
- Lobectomy
- Mitral valve surgery
- VATS (Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery)
- Lung resection
- Transplant experience preferred but not required if other skills are strong
- Prepare the Operating Room prior to surgery, assist surgeons during surgery, care for patients and surgical instruments
- Must be able to care for patients of all age groups (neonate through geriatric)
- Floating required: may be assigned to multiple units or locations depending on staffing needs
Required Qualifications
Experience
- Minimum 2 years of scrub experience or equivalent relevant experience
- Strong cardiovascular, endovascular, and peripheral vascular experience required
- Skills checklist must include cardiovascular, endovascular, and peripheral vascular ratings at level 4
- Transplant experience required
Education
- Completion of a surgical technologist program OR
- Minimum 2 years experience in a Surgical Technologist role may be considered in lieu of formal education
Licensure & Certifications
- BLS certification through American Heart Association (AHA) only
- National certification for Surgical Tech preferred but not required
- Additional certifications may be required based on unit assignment (e.g., ACLS, PALS, NRP)

Facility Requirements
- Traveler’s permanent address must be within 50 miles of the primary work site
- Must be willing to float to other departments or locations as needed
Background & Compliance
- Background check within 90 days prior to start date, including nationwide and local searches
- Education verification required if surgical technologist program completed
- Wisconsin Caregiver Screening required within 90 days of start
- Drug screening required per Vaya standard
- Various health documents and immunizations required (see Health Documents below)
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- Up-to-date vaccinations or documented immunity for:
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella)
- Varicella
- Hepatitis B (vaccination series or declination form)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Flu vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption (annual requirement)
- Meningococcal vaccine or declination (if applicable)
- Physical exam (must meet Aya standard, not facility required)
- Fit mask testing completed onsite
Testing & Competencies
- Telemetry testing may be required depending on unit assignment
- Medication/pharmacology competency exams as applicable
- Pass/fail testing for EKG/medication as applicable
- Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required
References & Documentation
- Two clinical references within the last 3 years (Aya standard)
