Travel/Contract Registered Nurse (ICU)

Location: Metairie, Louisiana

Job Details

• Contract Length: 13 weeks
• Patient Ratio: Typically 1:2, sometimes flexes to 1:3
• Weekend Shifts: 4 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule required
• Call: Not required
• Float: Required; float to all ICUs and may float to ED, PACU, and occasionally MS/PCU units (with 1:4 patient ratios)
• Responsibilities:

  • Perform lab sticks, EKGs, and line starts
  • Care for COVID-19 and isolation patients (N95 mask size required)

Required Experience & Qualifications

• Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (ICU)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
• Required Certifications:

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) – can be obtained onsite if not already certified
  • NIH Certification
• Licensure: Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license for Louisiana required

Additional Requirements

• Ability to care for isolation and COVID-19 patients
• Return to Office (RTO) limited to 5 days total

Compliance & Documentation

• Background check within 6 months covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• Drug screening within 30 days of start (includes comprehensive panel)
• Immunizations and health documents required:

  • Tdap (within 10 years)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray (recent within 3 months)
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B series, titer, or declination
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption/declination (required seasonally)
• Competency exams and annual updates required for medication, dysrhythmia/EKG, and core competencies
• Employment application with 7 years of work history, no gaps over 30 days

Work Environment

• ICU setting with occasional float to ED, PACU, and MS/PCU
• 1:2 patient ratio standard, sometimes 1:3 or 1:4 in other units
• Weekends and floating required

This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs comfortable with critical care equipment, flexible floating assignments, and working weekends in a travel contract role.
