Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Athens, Georgia
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Job Details
- Schedule: Flexible; mostly 3 shifts per week (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday)
- Shifts vary between 3 to 12 hours, typically between 6:30 AM and 6:00 PM or 5:30 PM to 6:00 PM
- Effort made to schedule days together
- Patient Population: Pediatrics through Geriatrics
- Unit Info:
- 6-bed unit with an average daily census of 20
- Ratio: 1:1 nurse to patient
- Circulating nurses are not required to scrub
- Floating required to main hospital
- Call required
- Every other weekend required
- Service Lines:
- Dental, ENT, General Surgery, Cataracts, Orthopedics, Plastics, Gynecology, Pediatrics, Neurosurgery, Podiatry
Experience & Requirements
- Minimum Specialty Experience: 2 years (No first-time travelers accepted)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
- Certifications Required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) mandatory
- ACLS, PALS, NRP, EFM may be required depending on specialty area (refer to clinical track specifics)
- Skills & Procedures:
- Ambulatory OR experience preferred
- Procedures include but are not limited to:
- Laryngectomy, Radical neck dissection, Tonsillectomy/adenoidectomy, Tracheostomy
- Appendectomy, Cholecystectomy, Colon resection, Hernia repair (inguinal/umbilical)
- Laparoscopic assisted procedures, Thyroidectomy, Hysterectomy (abdominal/vaginal)
- Anterior Lumbar Interbody Fusion (ALIF), Craniotomy, Kyphoplasty, Extreme Lateral Interbody Fusion (XLIF)
- Cataract extraction/implant, Adult Dentistry, Orthopedic procedures (ankle fusion, bunionectomy, arthroscopy)
- Fracture reductions, Laminectomy/discectomy, Total joint replacement, Plastic surgery
Orientation & Compliance
- Return to Office (RTO): Maximum 7 days
- Holiday Work:
- If 1 major holiday falls during assignment, traveler must work it
- If 2 major holidays fall, traveler must work both
- If 3 major holidays fall, traveler must work 2 of them
- Major Holidays Include:
- New Year’s Eve/Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day
- Compliance: Full compliance required to start on time; delays in compliance may push start date by 2 weeks due to orientation scheduling
Systems & Equipment
- Unit Systems: Epic, Pyxis
- Scrub Color: Provided
Required Documentation & Health Compliance
- Background Check: Must be completed within 30 days prior to start
- Education Verification: Required; can be pending at start with proof of processing
- Licenses: State license verification within 30 days prior to start (Georgia RN license required)
- Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start; instant drug screen acceptable if needed
- Immunizations & Health Screenings:
- TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
- TB questionnaire updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B series or signed declination
- Flu vaccine or declination required during flu season
- Competency Exams:
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required
- Color blind testing required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for certain specialties
- References: Two clinical references required

- Locals accepted at the same rate
- Number of non-billable orientation hours depends on contract length (e.g., 12 weeks = 12 hours)
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific policies such as Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance Policy prior to start
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with at least 2 years of specialty experience in surgical or procedural areas, comfortable with flexible scheduling, floating, and working a variety of surgical and medical service lines.
