Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan
Specialty: Registered Nurse (Neuro Critical Care Unit)
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • EPIC experience required
  • Required Specialty Experience: 2 years (Neuro Critical Care or related ICU experience)
  • 1st Timers Accepted
  • Patient Ratios: 1:2
  • Weekend Shifts: Every other weekend required
  • Call: None
  • Float: Yes, if low census
  • Certifications Required: ACLS, BLS (NIHSS preferred)

Unit Details

  • 24-bed Neuro Critical Care Unit (NCCU) ICU
  • Patient populations include neurosurgery, neurology, stroke, otolaryngology, and oral maxillofacial surgery
  • Common conditions treated: thrombectomies, post-op craniotomies, cerebral aneurysms, intracranial hemorrhage/hematomas, severe head/spinal cord injuries, increased intracranial pressure, free flap care, doppler usage, tracheostomy care, traumatic brain injuries, Myasthenia Gravis, Status Epilepticus, Guillain-Barre syndrome

Experience & Skills

  • Experience in Otolaryngology, Oral Maxillofacial, Neurology, or Stroke nursing care
  • Stroke care, thrombectomies, SAH precautions, EVD ventricle care
  • Sedation management, drip titration
  • ICU experience required
  • ACLS certified
  • Medication administration experience with: 23.4% NaCl, 3% NaCl, Mannitol, hypertonics, paralytics, Propofol, sedation

Certifications

  • ACLS (AHA only, no certificates of completion accepted)
  • BLS (AHA only, no certificates of completion accepted)
  • NIHSS preferred
  • Other certifications as applicable (PALS, NRP) depending on unit

Licensure & Verification

  • State License verification required
  • NURSYS verification required

Background & Compliance

  • 7-year background check within 30 days of start, renewed annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required prior to start and updated annually
  • Government issued photo ID required
  • I9 or attestation required
  • E-Verify or attestation required

Health & Safety

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (N95 masks accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (annual TB questionnaire if past positive)
  • Required immunizations or titers: Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start, updated annually
  • Flu vaccination required year-round with strict deadlines; no exemptions allowed

Orientation & Testing

  • Pass/fail EKG and medication competency testing required upon arrival
  • Facility-specific orientation packet and documentation must be completed within 3 weeks of start
  • Multiple facility-specific agreements and attestations must be reviewed and signed prior to start

References & History

  • Two recent verified professional references required (from managers/supervisors; charge RN references not accepted)
  • Employment application required
