Job Opportunity: Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics Therapist

Location: Toledo, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Requirements & Details

  • Licenses & Certifications:

    • Must have Ohio RRT license in hand to submit
    • Must obtain NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) prior to start date
    • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, NRP, OH RRT
    • Epic experience required
  • Experience:

    • Minimum 1 year of experience required in Respiratory / Neuro Diagnostics specialty
    • High risk experience preferred; if no experience, must be open to high risk training onsite
    • Unit accepts first-time travelers (no prior travel experience required)
  • Work Setting:

    • Adult Critical Care
    • Emergency Department
    • Floating required as needed within the Metro Region (Toledo, Flower, Bay Park Hospitals), including mid-shift floating to ensure guaranteed hours
  • Patient Population:

    • Adults and Geriatrics required
    • Pediatrics preferred; therapist will assist with pediatric and pediatric ER patients and must be comfortable with all ages
    • Basic pediatric respiratory therapy care required
  • Clinical Responsibilities:

    • Treat and educate patients with diagnoses including asthma, COPD, emphysema, pneumonia, and non-pulmonary diagnoses
    • Perform general and critical care including:
      • Medication delivery
      • Bronchopulmonary hygiene and hyperinflation therapy
      • Initiation, management, and weaning of invasive and non-invasive ventilation
      • Airway management and suctioning (endotracheal tube, nasal/oral airway, tracheostomy)
      • Cuff and ETCO2 monitoring
      • Intubation assist and extubation
      • Maintenance of indwelling lines
      • Respond to rapid responses and emergency codes, perform CPR
      • Blood gas sampling and analysis, specimen collection, spontaneous breathing parameters
    • Preferred experience changing tubing and bags for invasive/arterial lines on Toledo and Bay Park campuses
  • Equipment Experience:

    • Ventilators: Servo I, Avea, Bella Vista
    • Ventilator management: BiPAP, CPAP, weaning from mechanical ventilation
    • Oxygen therapy: High Flow Nasal Cannula, Trach collar
    • Nebulizers: Hand held, T-piece, Trach collar
    • Medication delivery systems: Aerosol set up mask/trach, Medihaler, Metered dose inhaler
  • Medications Administered:

    • Albuterol, Atrovent, Combivent, Flovent, Inhaled steroids, Perforomist, Pulmicort, Racemic epinephrine, Spiriva, Xopenex
  • Additional Skills:

    • Assist in high risk neonatal/pediatric deliveries
    • ABG (arterial blood gas) interpretation
  • Dress Code:

    • Scrub color: Grey

Compliance & Documentation Requirements

  • Background Checks:

    • 7-year background check within 12 months of start, updated annually
    • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required annually
    • Fingerprinting (BCI and FBI) required within 12 months of start for certain units including Pediatrics and Psych
    • Education verification required (highest level)
    • State-specific fingerprint and background checks as applicable
  • Health Documents:

    • Physical exam within last 12 months (latex-free PPE available)
    • N95 Fit Test within 12 months, updated annually (KN95 not accepted)
    • Immunizations/vaccinations required or approved exemptions:
      • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years)
      • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) - positive titer, 2 vaccines, or approved exemption
      • Varicella - positive titer, 2 vaccines, or approved exemption
      • Hepatitis B series, positive titer, or declination
      • Flu seasonal vaccination or approved exemption (seasonal requirements apply)
    • Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 3 months of start, updated annually
    • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Competency Exams:

    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam for RNs (time sensitive, annual update)
    • Conscious sedation competency exam for ER & ICU as applicable
  • References & Skills:

    • Two professional references required within 2 years of start (at least one from a leader such as Charge RN or above)
    • Skills checklist required for all candidates

Additional Notes

  • Floating between multiple hospitals in the metro region is required to ensure all guaranteed hours are worked.
  • Candidate must be comfortable working with a wide range of patient ages and conditions, including pediatrics and high-risk patients.
  • Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
  • Local travelers within 50 miles are not accepted for this role.
