Registered Nurse - Telemetry

Location: Elizabethtown, New York
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks

Unit and Patient Population

• Unit: Medical/Surgical Acute Unit with Telemetry
• Unit Beds: 25
• Patient Population: Ages 17-104, including chronic disease exacerbation and acute infections
• Patient Acuity: Acute, chronic, rehab, varying acuity
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
• Ancillary Support: CNA/LNA/PCT, Unit Clerk, LPN, access to Physician Assistant
• Shift Hours: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; schedule includes every other weekend and every other holiday
• Documentation System: Epic-ClinDoc
• Medication System: Pyxis with Epic
• Patient Care Modalities: IV therapy, EKGs, Telemetry interpretation, respiratory treatments, COVID patients
• Special Equipment: IV Pumps, Telemetry, CT IV Contrast, Hi-Flow Oxygen
• Respiratory support available 24/7
• Charge nurse duties required regularly

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 1 year of Med Surg/Telemetry experience within the last year
• One completed travel nursing assignment
• Current certifications issued by the American Heart Association:

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Experience in charge nurse roles
• Experience with Epic electronic health record system
• Telemetry experience

Orientation and Scheduling

• Orientation: 1-2 days
• Schedule: 3 x 12-hour shifts one week; 3 x 12-hour shifts plus one 8-hour shift the next week
• No block schedules allowed
• Bi-weekly orientations on Mondays
• Reliable personal transportation required (public transportation not accessible)
• Vehicle should have all-season or snow tires November through April

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

• Background check within 30 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked/schooled in past 7 years
• Education verification as required
• Drug testing within 12 months of start
• Physical exam within 12 months of start
• N95 fit test prior to assignment and annually
• Immunizations and titers required:

  • Tdap within 10 years or titer
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray if positive
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
  • Varicella vaccination or positive titer
  • Hepatitis B series and titer or signed declination
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination (per state requirements)
  • COVID-19 vaccination or declination
  • Pneumonia vaccination or declination (for NY placements)
• Completion of EPIC and Cornerstone training modules prior to start
• Photo for badge required two weeks prior to start
• Various facility-specific forms and attestations required prior to start

Additional Information

• Assignment start date: Must start by March 16
• Assignment duration: Up to 16 weeks
• No weekend requirements every week, but every other weekend and holiday coverage required
• Must explain any employment gaps over 90 days
• Public transportation is not available; reliable personal vehicle strongly recommended

This position is ideal for experienced Telemetry RNs with prior travel experience who are comfortable working charge nurse shifts in a small acute care setting with a diverse patient population.
