Job Opportunity: Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)

Location: Manchester, New Hampshire
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts of 12 hours, 6:15 PM – 6:45 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours (minimum accepted)
Schedule Requirements: Every other weekend required, no on-call


Job Summary

  • Work in an acute care community hospital (approx. 300 beds) with ER, adult med/surg, and adult critical care units.
  • Responsibilities include airway management, medication administration, ventilator management, arterial blood gases (ABGs), oxygen therapy, suctioning, pulmonary toileting, nebulizer treatments, BiPAP, CPAP, cough assist, IPV, assisting with intubations and bronchoscopies, mechanical ventilation, and in-house transport of mechanically ventilated patients.
  • Pediatric ER and pediatrics only if competency is demonstrated. No use in level 3 NICU.
  • Patient age range: Infants through geriatrics required; neonates preferred.

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Therapist license in New Hampshire
  • Minimum 3 years of Respiratory Therapist experience, including experience within the last year
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • Experience in trauma, community hospital, emergency room (ER), and adult ICU settings
  • Pediatric ER and pediatrics experience only if competency is demonstrated
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Required Licenses and Certifications

  • Current New Hampshire state respiratory license (NH license pending accepted for subcontractors).
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
  • Preferred certifications: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support), PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support), CRTT, RRT.

Equipment Experience (Preferred)

  • Puritan Bennett ventilators
  • Draeger ventilators
  • Servo I ventilators
  • LTV 1200/HT70 ventilators

Compliance and Background Requirements

  • Background check required within 30 days of start, including:
    • Social Security verification
    • National sex offender registry search
    • National criminal search
    • Education verification
    • State and county criminal searches (excluding NH counties; NH state police search required instead)
    • BEAS (Bureau of Elderly and Adult Services) background report
    • Motor vehicle background check if driving to patient homes (specific criteria apply)
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within 14 days prior to start (no exceptions).
  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start.
  • Fit mask test (annual) required for clinical candidates (N95 or equivalent masks).
  • Immunizations and titers required:
    • Tdap vaccine within last 10 years (medical or religious exemptions allowed with documentation)
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (2-step PPD or equivalent)
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) immunity or vaccination records (no religious exemptions allowed)
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or waiver accepted (no religious exemptions allowed)
    • Varicella immunity or vaccination (no religious exemptions allowed)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination required during flu season (Oct 31 – Apr 1) with medical or religious exemptions allowed with documentation.
  • Respiratory Safety Clearance questionnaire required prior to start.

Additional Requirements

  • Two current professional references within the last 3 years, including one from a supervisor or charge RN.
  • Employment application and skills checklist required.
  • Annual internal evaluation required for travelers working with the agency for one year or more.
  • Pass/fail dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 48 hours of contract signing for certain units.
  • Facility-specific documentation such as photo for badge, proof of auto insurance (if applicable), and compliance attestations required.
  • Candidates who have ever been employed by the associated health system are not eligible as travelers.

Notes

  • Reduced rates apply for local travelers.
  • No call required.
  • Pediatric ER and PICU experience preferred but not mandatory unless competency demonstrated.
  • Facility will accept transcripts and diplomas if education verification is pending.
  • Subcontractors must manage their own background checks and RespSafety clearance.
