Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Stepdown Cardiac

Location: Durham, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 10 weeks


Job Description

  • Position: RN Stepdown/Cardiac
  • Schedule/Shift: Nights
  • Weekend Shifts: 6 (Saturdays and Sundays)
  • Additional Shifts: 4 Mondays, 4 Fridays
  • Floating Areas: PCU, Stepdown, IMCU
  • On-Call: Yes
  • Blocked Scheduling: No
  • First-Time Travelers: Accepted
  • Local Candidates: Accepted (within 75 miles)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in North Carolina
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Minimum 2 years of recent experience in Telemetry, PCU (Progressive Care Unit), DOU (Direct Observation Unit), Intermediate Care, or Stepdown
  • Telemetry experience within the last year
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience with Epic electronic health record system

Orientation & Training

  • Orientation sessions held bi-weekly
  • Scrub color: Royal Blue

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid physical exam within 12 months
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months
  • Up-to-date immunizations including:
    • Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
    • Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
    • Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
    • Polio vaccine or attestation
    • Seasonal flu vaccination (declinations not accepted)
  • Negative 10-panel drug test (including THC) within 30 days of start
  • Background checks including SSN trace, county searches, sex offender, education verification, and sanction lists
  • Two professional references from employment within the last 12 months (at least one supervisor)
  • Employment application with 7 years of work history
  • Skills checklist updated annually
  • Competency exams and unit-specific training as required
  • Setup of a guest account prior to clearance for access to orientation and work systems

Additional Notes

  • Candidates must complete all required online modules prior to orientation
  • Competency checklists must be completed within 3 weeks after start date
  • Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training provided during orientation (valid for 2 years)
  • Pass/fail testing on EKG/medication knowledge during orientation (not required for RRTs)
  • Color blind testing required only for specific roles (not applicable here)

This position is suitable for nurses with recent cardiac stepdown or telemetry experience seeking a travel contract in North Carolina with night shifts and weekend coverage. First-time travelers and local candidates are welcome.
