Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical/Telemetry

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Day (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 36 hours/week)
Schedule Options: 36 or 48-hour shifts available; 13 or 26 week contract options

Unit & Patient Population

• Medical Surgical/Telemetry unit with 20 beds, including orthopedic patients
• Patient cases include total knee and hip replacements, complicated orthopedic cases, pulmonary, sepsis, GI, endocrine, cardiac, renal, and psychiatric illnesses
• Unit split by floors:

  • 7th floor includes medical/surgical patients with behavioral health conditions (e.g., detox, dementia) and is a secured floor
• Must be comfortable caring for behavioral health patients; safety and de-escalation training provided
• Ratios: 1:5 (day), 1:6 (night), occasionally 1:7 at night (rare)
• Drip management required on all floors
• EPIC charting experience required

Job Requirements

• Valid RN license in Nebraska
• Minimum 2 years of telemetry nursing experience, with telemetry experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
• NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

Additional Information

• RTO (Request Time Off): Up to two weeks allowed; blackout dates apply during College World Series (6/11/26 - 6/22/26)
• Uniform: Steele gray scrubs with facility logo mandatory; facility provides info on obtaining scrubs
• Parking: Permit available (~$55/month) or daily parking rates apply
• Weekend Requirement: 4 weekend shifts out of 8 possible in a 4-week period (days: Sat/Sun; nights: Fri/Sat night)

Compliance & Onboarding Requirements

• Government-issued photo ID required
• Background check within 30 days of start, including multi-county and federal checks
• SAM and OIG checks required within 30 days of start and every 30 days thereafter
• Education verification required
• State-specific abuse/neglect registry check required
• Primary source license verification and NURSYS verification required
• Annual physical exam and fit mask test required
• Immunizations and health screenings required:

  • Tdap within last 10 years
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray with TB questionnaire if positive history
  • 2 MMR vaccines or positive titers (boosters if needed)
  • Hepatitis B titer or declination
  • 2 Varicella vaccines or positive titer (boosters if needed)
  • Drug screen within 60 days of start and annually
  • Flu vaccine preferred (documentation or declination required)
  • COVID vaccine preferred; exemptions accepted
• Annual skills checklist required
• Two professional references from the past 2 years required
• Orientation safety manual acknowledgement required

• Travelers are first to float to meet staffing needs
• Facility uses EPIC electronic health record system
• Facility is a large academic medical center with complex patient population
• Eye exam required only for OR staff (not applicable here)

This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with medical-surgical and telemetry patients, including behavioral health populations, who are flexible with floating and holiday shifts.
