Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lafayette, Louisiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position in a Medical Surgical unit specializing in post-operative GI and wound care.
  • Acute care experience required.
  • Must have worked full-time on a post-op unit.
  • Patient diagnoses include pancreatitis, GI bleeds, bowel obstructions/perforations, wound and post-op infections, mass removal, esophageal perforation, gunshot wounds, motor vehicle collisions, diverticulitis.
  • Special procedures experience preferred: pancreatectomy, esophagectomy, Whipple, spleenectomy, adrenalectomy, cystectomy, colectomy, thyroidectomy, mastectomy, hepatic resection, Nissen, bariatric surgery, TURP, gastrectomy, parathyroidectomy, exploratory laparotomy.
  • Equipment experience preferred: PEG, PEJ, PCA, peritoneal drain, JP drain, hemo vac, wound vac, nephrostomy tubes, ileostomy, colostomy, urostomy, surgical drains.
  • May be assigned to an emergency response team during events and expected to stay on-site as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Louisiana
  • Minimum 2 years of Medical Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Acute Care experience
  • Wound Care experience
  • Completion of at least one prior travel nursing assignment
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Additional Information

  • Candidates must be comfortable with potential emergency assignments requiring extended on-site presence.
  • Photo for badge must be a recent, full-color, passport-style photo without obstructions or filters.
  • Fit mask testing may be required onsite if not completed prior to start.
  • Employment application and detailed work history (7 years) required.

Prior Travel Experience

  • At least one prior travel contract completed is required.

This position is ideal for experienced Medical Surgical RNs with strong post-op skills who are comfortable working in acute care settings and have prior travel nursing experience.
