Job Opportunity: Infusion Registered Nurse

Location: Bridgeport, Connecticut
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Job Details

  • Schedule: 3 or 4 shifts per week, 12-hour day shifts (07:00 - 19:30)
  • Weekend and holiday shifts required on an every-other-week basis
  • Work setting: Short-term acute care hospital, Level II Trauma Center
  • Float to other Medical-Surgical units as needed
  • Charting system: EPIC
  • Scrub color: Royal blue

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • Chemotherapy Certification (ONS/ONCC)
  • NIH Stroke Certification (required for all RNs except Behavioral Health, Case Management, Home Health, OR, Pediatric specialties, NICU, Labor and Delivery)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or ARC only
  • Additional certifications may be required depending on unit assignment

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Connecticut
  • Minimum 1 year of infusion experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Chemotherapy certification (ONS or ONCC)
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health record system

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check (updated annually)
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
  • Education verification including foreign equivalency if applicable
  • Employment verification for last 7 years with no gaps greater than 90 days
  • Attestation of prior radiation exposure if applicable to certain units

Competency and Testing Requirements

  • Medication/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 85% score) within 12 months of start
  • Color Blind Testing (minimum 80% score) for all candidates starting on or after 8/2/2024
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for Telemetry, MedSurg/Tele, ER, ICU, Progressive Care, PACU, IR/Cath Lab, Endoscopy, GI units (not required for NICU or Behavioral Health)

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 12 months of start, updated annually (3M N95 preferred)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray documentation
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Required immunizations or proof of immunity:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Varicella
    • Hepatitis B (or declination within 1 year)
  • Tdap vaccination highly preferred for Pediatric, Labor and Delivery, Postpartum specialties (declination accepted)
  • 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination series preferred

Facility-Specific Training and Documentation

  • Multiple mandatory training modules and attestations including but not limited to:
    • Stroke Education (except Pediatric specialties and NICU)
    • CLABSI Prevention
    • Preventing Pressure Injury
    • Language Services
    • CAUTI Education (except PICU, NICU, Psychiatry/Behavioral Health)
    • Patient Transportation with Oxygen
    • Suicide Risk and Environmental Assessment
    • Pyxis ES MedStation
    • Baxter Pump Interoperability
    • Patient Bedside Rounding (except OR, Behavioral Health, Ambulatory, ER)
    • Ventricular Assist Device Awareness (except certain campuses)
    • Blood Administration Module (except Case Managers, Behavioral Health, Home Health)
    • New Employee Orientation
    • 21st Century Cures Act Module (required for RN except Home Health)
    • ED Handbook (for ED/ER RNs only)
    • eCart Training Module (not required for Pediatric, Periop/OR, Outpatient, Case Managers, Home Health)
    • Chaperone Policy Training (required if gap >6 months or updated module)

Additional Notes

  • Mobile Heartbeat Alarm Module required for all RNs except ER/ED, Pediatrics, ICU, NICU
  • EPIC testing required for ER RNs with EPIC experience; optional but highly encouraged for others
  • Candidates must provide documentation of all required certifications, immunizations, and trainings prior to or at orientation
  • Must be willing to work in a fast-paced acute care environment with a Level II Trauma designation
