Registered Nurse: Medical Surgical

Location: Kalamazoo, Michigan Employment Type: Travel/Contract Contract Length: Up to 26 weeks Shift: Day, 3x12 hours (7:00 to 19:30), 36 hours per week Schedule: Works every other weekend

Unit Description

Unit Name: NVU, a 40-bed medical surgical unit
Patient Population: Neurological disorders such as stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and other inflammatory disorders of the brain and spinal cord. Large spinal surgery population, including post-operative neurosurgery, orthopedic surgery, laminectomy, and spinal fusion patients.
Beds: Six step-down/telemetry beds, six bariatric beds, and a four-bed Neuro Monitoring Unit that admits seizure patients starting at age 5
Night Ratios: 1:5-6, with no LPNs on nights
Charge Nurse Assignment: No patients when fully staffed (5 RNs). Takes 3 patients when staffed with 4 RNs and 6 patients when staffed with 3 nurses.
Equipment: EPIC, Pyxis
Float Scope: May be asked to float to other Med/Surg units, ICU units, and ED waiting rooms

Required Qualifications

Valid RN license in Michigan
Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Med Surg / Telemetry experience of at least 1 year, completed within the last year
BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
NIHSS certification (NIH Stroke Certification from AHA, APEX, or Bluecloud only, updated annually)
