Respiratory Therapist Opportunity - Omaha, Nebraska

Position Details

  • Specialty: Respiratory Therapist
  • Location: Omaha, Nebraska
  • Contract Length: 16 weeks

Required Certifications and Licenses

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certified
  • Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) via NBRC required
  • RRT or CRT required
  • NRP & PALS preferred
  • Valid driver's license required at submittal

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty Experience: Not explicitly stated; default to standard expectations for Respiratory Therapist roles (minimum 1+ years recommended)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required

Patient Population and Work Environment

  • Patient Types: All ages (neonates to geriatrics)
  • Areas Covered: Inpatient, all areas/floors
  • Hospitalist or Intensivist available 24/7
  • Respiratory Lead Therapist present on each shift
  • Traveler will not be the only RT in-house

Skills and Equipment

  • Must be skilled in EKGs, bedside bronchoscopies, and bedside spirometry
  • Equipment used includes:
    • Ventilators: Drager, Servo I, Carefusion (Heliox and NICU use only)
    • Bipap: Vision, V60, V30, Respironics S/T
    • High Flow: Airvo2

Scheduling and Orientation

  • Shifts: 7am-7pm, team scheduling
  • Weekend Requirements: Days every third weekend, nights every other weekend
  • Holiday Requirements: Rotate with permanent staff
  • Floating: Required to float to different areas within the hospital in RT capacity
  • Orientation: 3 shifts of 12 hours each

Additional Notes

  • Radius Rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity).
  • Return to Office (RTO) needed upfront (7 or fewer days per 13-week contract); no additional RTO approved.
  • Fingernail Policy: Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to comply may lead to contract termination.
  • Positive work environment with strong teamwork between RTs, providers, and nursing.
  • Key attributes for success: time management, flexibility, adaptability, communication, teamwork, and willingness to learn.
