ICU Nurse Opportunity - Chandler, Arizona
Specialty

Required Experience
- Minimum 3 full years of recent ICU experience (no exceptions)
- Experience must include either neuro or cardiovascular (CV) ICU experience
- Prefer candidates with experience in a similar size ICU unit
- Prior travel experience not required; first-time travelers are welcome if experience criteria are met
Certifications Required
- Active BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- AZ license or compact license
- TNCC preferred but not required
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Unit Details
Surgical ICU - Trauma Neuro Surgery
- 32 beds
- Nurse:Patient ratio: 1:2 or 1:1
- Level 1 Trauma Center
- Common patient types: trauma (falls, gunshot wounds, blunt trauma, MVAs), neuro-surgery cases, CVA, post-TPA, COVID, sepsis, ARDS
- RNs required to titrate drips (e.g., Propofol, fentanyl, versed, precedex, morphine, dilaudid, ketamine, rocuronium, levophed, vasopressin, cardene, labetalol, dopamine, dobutamine, heparin, insulin)
- Charge nurse role available (does not take patients)
- No nurse aides on unit (only sitters and Health Unit Secretary)
- Hospitalist or Intensivist coverage 24/7
- Respiratory Therapist coverage 24/7 with advanced ventilator equipment (Dreager, Hamilton, Puritan Bennett 840, V60s Bipap, Airvo)
- No tele/monitor techs; RNs interpret their own cardiac strips (GE monitors)
- Scrub color: Navy
Medical ICU - Medical Cardiac + Overflow
- 36 Medical Cardiac beds + 12 overflow beds
- Nurse:Patient ratio: 1:2 or 1:1
- Common patient types: sepsis, COVID, CRRT (not required), DKA, flu, ARDS, vascular surgeries, CVICU cases (CABG, valves, post caths, TAVR, IABP, Impella, ECMO, Tandem heart, esophagectomies)
- Same titration and charge nurse details as Surgical ICU
- Same staffing and equipment coverage as Surgical ICU
- Scrub color: Navy
Scheduling & Shifts
- Self-scheduling allowed; manager may balance shifts as needed
- Weekend requirement: 3 weekend shifts per 4-week schedule
- Night shift weekends: Friday - Saturday
- Day shift weekends: Saturday - Sunday
- May have 1 holiday off per assignment
- No additional call or standby shifts required
- May be low censused up to 3 times per contract depending on unit needs
Orientation & Training
- 1-2 days unit/department-specific orientation
- Must pass a dysrhythmia exam within 24-48 hours prior to acceptance (max 2 attempts)
- Pass/fail simulation lab on Day 1 of orientation (study guides provided)
- Skills validation for trauma, neuro, and specialty devices as needed
Floating Requirements
- Float between 3 ICUs (Surgical ICU, Medical Cardiac ICU, and overflow ICU)
- Float to telemetry unit as needed (ratios 1:3 or 1:4)
Additional Notes
- Flexibility is essential due to floating and weekend requirements
- Level 1 trauma or neuro experience preferred but not required
- Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles and not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN at any associated facilities within the past year
