PCU RN (Night Shift) - Omaha, Nebraska
Job Overview
- Position: Night PCU RN
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: 1830-0700 (12-hour night shifts)
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Every third holiday
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating: May be required to float to medical floors, ICU, or rehab
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Beds: 35
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios: 1:4-5
- Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Ratio approximately 1:10 or 2:20
- Charge Nurse: Present on each shift and takes an assignment
- Common Patient Types: Adults and geriatrics with cardiac, nephrology, stroke, diabetes, and continuous EEG monitoring needs
- Drip Titration: RNs are required to titrate drips such as Cardizem, beta blockers, and seizure medications
Requirements
- RN License with at least 2 years as an RN
- Minimum 1 year of unit experience
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (required)
- Must pass a 90% or higher on a pass/fail open book exam during orientation (exam covers skills learned)
- Valid driver’s license required to verify candidate is within a 50-mile radius
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
- Fingernail Policy: Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
Orientation
- First week: Onboarding
- Followed by 1-2 days of unit-specific orientation
Additional Notes
- Fast-paced environment
- Successful nurses typically have a positive attitude, strong communication skills, critical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and a willingness to help others
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO extensions will be approved
This position is ideal for experienced PCU nurses comfortable with night shifts and working in a dynamic, fast-paced progressive care setting.
