Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) – Med Surg (Acute Care)

Location: Macomb, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

Join a dedicated Med/Surg team in a 16-bed unit providing care to a diverse patient population. The unit maintains a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio to ensure high-quality, personalized care in a supportive environment.

Shift: Nights, 7 PM – 7 AM

• Variable with weekend rotation
• Weekend commitment every other or every third weekend
• No mandatory holiday shifts (volunteers appreciated)
• No call requirements (volunteer opportunities available)

Unit Features

• Support Staff: 1 CNA available
• Equipment: High-flow oxygen, Vapotherm; complex respiratory support (e.g., BiPAP) transferred to ICU
• Patient Flow: High turnover with frequent admissions and discharges
• Floating: Opportunities to assist as a safety sitter or in other supportive roles
• Dress Code: Pewter scrub tops with black shoes and pants; colored tops allowed if layered with pewter outer garment

Key Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate nursing care for patients with medical conditions such as COPD, pneumonia, cellulitis, congestive heart failure (CHF), and surgical cases including colon resections and orthopedic procedures (total hips and knees)
• Monitor patients using Nihon Kohden telemetry and interpret telemetry strips independently
• Collaborate with a small team including a clinical care coordinator, charge nurse, and weekend house supervisor
• Assist in outpatient infusions as needed (experience preferred)
• Maintain thorough charting to support quality care and lower patient ratios

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 2 years of Med Surg nursing experience, with Med Surg experience within the last year
• Current certifications: ACLS, BLS, PALS issued by the American Heart Association, and CPI

Orientation

Comprehensive orientation during the first week including:

• HR processes
• Infection control training
• Equipment familiarization
• Hands-on experience with a preceptor
