Surgical Tech - Travel Contract

Location: San Luis Obispo, California
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Overview

Seeking an experienced Surgical Tech for a travel assignment in a hospital operating room with 7 OR suites performing 15-20 cases daily. The caseload includes a high volume of orthopedic cases (total joints), general surgery, gynecology, pediatrics, and ophthalmology. Cardiac cases are performed but travelers will not be assigned to these.

Work Schedule

• 8-hour day shifts with variable start times (schedule set by manager)
• Call requirements: 1 call night per week with a 30-minute response time
• Weekend call: one weekend per month
• Holidays worked only in emergencies

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of OR experience
• Active BLS certification
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST)
• Prior travel experience preferred but not required

Work Environment & Equipment

• EMR system: Cerner Surginet
• Telemetry monitoring: Phillips system
• Scrub color and supplies provided
• No floating between units
• Floor-specific orientation based on skillset
• Sterile processing techs must have BLS and IAHCSMM certification (if applicable)
• Sterile processing equipment includes autoclave (Steris & V-pro)

Additional Notes

• Charge nurse available but not 24/7
• Respiratory therapy available 24/7
• Pharmacy not available 24/7; after-hours use of a medication system after 10pm
• Scrubbing preferred but not required for RNs
• Travelers will not be assigned to cardiac cases such as open heart, carotid endarterectomies, or TAVRs
