Registered Nurse (RN) – Surgical Services (OR)
Location: Boise, Idaho
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Travel assignment in an Operating Room (OR) setting within Surgical Services.
- Work schedule primarily 12-hour day shifts (9 AM – 9 PM), rarely overnight unless covering night call.
- Call requirements include weeknight, weekend, and holiday shifts with in-house call shifts up to 12 hours.
- Call response time is 30 minutes.
- Floating is rare and limited to nearby surgery centers or specific locations if experienced with cardiovascular OR (robotic thoracic).
- Scrubs provided by the hospital (color: grey).
- Orientation includes approximately 1 week of general and unit-specific training.
Patient Population & Case Types
- Cases include pediatric (all specialties and trauma) and adult patients.
- Common surgeries: General, DaVinci robotic procedures, neurosurgery (spines and craniotomies), pediatric scoliosis, orthopedic total joints and trauma, sports medicine, pediatric spica casts, complex urology (kidney, prostate, cystoscopy), oncology, ENT, gynecology (including complex c-sections), and bariatrics (robotic or laparoscopic Roux-en-Y, sleeves, gastric bypass).
Requirements & Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience required.
- Preferred: 1-2 prior travel assignments in nursing.
- Broad surgical experience preferred; candidates should highlight their top 2 areas of strength.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
- Must be located outside a 50-mile radius of the facility (per facility radius rule).
Work Environment & Support
- 17 OR suites with an average of 65 cases per day.
- Charge nurse available 24/7 on each shift.
- OR techs present to assist.
- Electronic Medical Record system: EPIC.
Additional Notes
- Shift scheduling is flexible to meet department needs; no block scheduling.
- Call shifts are voluntary first, then assigned 1-2 times per contract depending on vacation coverage.
- Weekend and holiday call shifts are typically once per month, voluntary first then assigned.
