Job Opportunity: Medical Technician (LPN) - Days

Location: Bangor, Maine
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Summary

This contract position involves splitting shifts as a Charge Nurse and a Medical Technician (LPN) in a long-term care or skilled care setting. The Medical Technician is responsible for medication administration on the assigned nursing unit, following standard nursing procedures and facility policies.


Key Responsibilities

  • Administer medication via oral, rectal, topical, inhalation, eye, or ear routes under RN supervision
  • Maintain medication cart and ensure storage areas are clean, neat, and locked as appropriate
  • Obtain permission from licensed nurse before administering PRN medication
  • Perform counts of non-narcotic countable medications with medication technician or licensed nurse at beginning and end of shift
  • Administer no Schedule II drugs or sliding scale drugs
  • Check medication supply for each resident and coordinate reorders with nursing staff
  • Take vital signs, including apical pulse rates, following correct procedures
  • Report significant changes in resident condition or vital signs promptly to Charge Nurse or Supervisor
  • Document medication administration on MAR per facility policy
  • Work effectively with frequent interruptions and emotionally upset residents/patients and family members
  • Communicate effectively with medical staff, nursing personnel, and other department supervisors
  • Demonstrate flexibility, personal integrity, and ability to work independently

Requirements

  • Specialty: Nursing (LPN)
  • Minimum Years of Experience: 3 years
  • Certifications: BLS/BCLS required
  • Prior travel experience: Not required
  • Must reside 50+ miles from the facility

Additional Information

  • Facility may call off or cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week assignment
  • Position requires passion for working with long-term care residents and skilled rehabilitation patients
