Location: Juneau, Alaska
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 24 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Shift: Urgent care hours 8am–8pm; shifts vary across days and hours
Hours per Week: 36
Job Summary
Provide clinical nursing services within an Urgent Care ambulatory setting. Support providers, clinic staff, and management to ensure quality patient care, efficient clinic operations, and compliance with standards. Responsibilities include leadership of clinic staff, medication and supply management, quality control of point-of-care testing, documentation of care, and assisting providers as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of clinic experience, including urgent care experience
- Clinic experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical nursing care and support to patients and medical staff
- Lead and direct clinic staff to ensure smooth operation of front desk and patient care areas
- Maintain medication inventory and supplies outside of warehouse system
- Perform quality control checks on point-of-care tests
- Accurately document all nursing care and services in a timely manner
- Oversee opening and closing procedures of provider clinics
- Anticipate and assist providers and staff to facilitate efficient patient care
- Communicate effectively with other departments to support patients and clinic operations
- Maintain a clean, safe working environment and report equipment or safety issues
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of nursing process and ability to apply it in clinical setting
- Understanding of customer service, safety, and infection control principles
- Skilled in patient assessments, specimen collection, and use of medical/computer equipment
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Team player with willingness to teach and ask for help when needed
- Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to maintain positive working relationships
Physical Demands
- Frequent standing, walking, sitting, and use of hands/fingers
- Occasional climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs
Additional Information
- Proof of flu vaccine required
- Start date contingent on timely submission of fingerprint cards (fingerprinting appointment required)
- Applicants must live at least 50 miles away from the work location
- Housing and travel expenses are not provided by the employer
This position requires an active Alaska RN license and recent urgent care experience to ensure readiness for the clinical demands of the role.
