Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Cardiovascular Stepdown (Travel)

Location: Evansville, Indiana

Job Description

  • Position on a Cardiac Renal Unit Stepdown, night shift (12-hour shifts, 6:30 PM to 7 AM)
  • Primary location with potential float to nearby campuses (within 8-11 miles)
  • Float assignments require 2-hour notice; mid-shift float within the same campus possible
  • Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Work three weekends every six weeks and every other holiday
  • No on-call or call-back required

Experience & Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of strong Cardiac/Telemetry nursing experience
  • Prior travel experience required: Must have completed at least 1 prior travel assignment
  • Trauma Level II experience required
  • Recent EPIC charting experience required (checkoff class will be provided)
  • Must have current active compact nursing license
  • Required certifications: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, NIHSS

Patient Population & Skillset

  • High acuity patients including:
    • Telemetry/Medical-Surgical/Cardiac patients
    • Atrial fibrillation with RVR, flutter, blocks
    • Heart catheterization without interventions
    • CHF, COPD, sepsis, behavioral health/CIWA, post ablations, dialysis
  • Skills required:
    • Telemetry and 12-lead EKG interpretation (travelers must pass telemetry tests)
    • Initiate and titrate drips (antiarrhythmics, Heparin, etc.)
    • PIV insertion, chest tube/indwelling drain management, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
    • Management of stable drips (heparin, lasix, protonix) and antidysrhythmics (cardizem, tikosyn dosing, amiodarone)
    • Nephrostomy tube care
  • Strong assessment and critical thinking skills essential
  • Must be resilient, adaptable, and socially engaging

Unit Information

  • 32-bed unit
  • Nurse-to-patient ratios:
    • Days: 1:4-5
    • Nights: 1:5-7
  • Charge nurse rarely takes patients on days, but does on nights
  • Excellent unit retention and experienced team
  • Teaching hospital environment; may require precepting students and new hires

Additional Notes

  • No competing health system or agency logos allowed on scrubs
  • Strict attendance policy: 3 call-ins may result in termination
  • COVID-19 vaccine not currently required (subject to change)
  • Guaranteed hours: 36 per week (48 hours accepted upon request)
  • Overtime applies after 52 hours on 48-hour contracts
  • Guaranteed hours not assured during orientation week or holidays when unit is closed

This position is ideal for experienced cardiovascular stepdown nurses with prior travel experience seeking a challenging, high-acuity night shift role in a supportive teaching hospital environment.
