Job Description

• Position: Registered Nurse in the Cardiac Renal Unit Stepdown
• Shift Requirement: 12-hour Nights (6:30 PM - 7:00 AM)
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend/Holiday Requirement: Three weekends out of every six weeks and every other holiday.

Requirements

• Licensure: Must have a current active compact license.
• Certifications: AHA BLS, AHA ACLS, and NIHSS required.
• Experience:

  • Minimum of 3 years of strong Cardiac Tele experience.
  • At least 2 travel assignments.
  • Trauma Level II experience preferred.
• Charting Experience: Recent EPIC experience required.

Patient Population

• High acuity patients in Tele/MS/Stepdown with conditions such as:

  • Atrial fibrillation (Afib with RVR, Afib, flutter, blocks)
  • Heart catheterization without interventions
  • Congestive heart failure (CHF), Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Sepsis, Behavioral Health/CIWA, post-ablation care, dialysis.

Skillset

• Tele/12-lead EKG interpretation (Travelers must pass tele tests).
• Initiate/titrate drips (antiarrhythmics, Heparin, etc.).
• PIV insertion, chest tube/indwelling drain management, CBI, stable drips (heparin, lasix, protonix), antidysrhythmic medications (cardizem, tikosyn dosing, amiodarone), nephrostomy tubes.
• Strong assessment and critical thinking skills are essential.

Unit Information

• Unit Size: 32 beds
• Patient Ratio:

  • Days: 1:4-5
  • Nights: 1:5-7
• Unit Strengths: Excellent retention and experience on the unit; strong team environment with a manager who has over 15 years of experience.

Additional Information

• Scrub Colors: Navy blue scrubs (no competing health systems or agency logos).
• Teaching Hospital: May require precepting of students and new hires.
• Covid-19 Vaccine: Not required (subject to change).
• Attendance Policy: Three call-ins can result in termination.
