Registered Nurse – Medical-Surgical

Location: Wausau, Wisconsin
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 12-hour day/night shifts (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM or 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours guaranteed
Weekend/Holiday: Every other weekend and holiday required

Unit Overview

• Post Surgical Care Unit (40-bed inpatient area) providing care for pre- and post-surgical adult and geriatric patients
• Nurse-to-patient ratio:

  • Day/PM shifts: 1:4 or 1:5
  • Night shifts: 1:5 to 1:7
• Fast-paced unit with 10-15 admissions daily, highest during day/PM shifts
• Occupancy typically 90-95% during the week
• Average length of stay: 2–3 days (except joint patients)
• Requires ability to multitask, prioritize patient care based on acuity, and work collaboratively as a team

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Wisconsin
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• BLS certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
• Prior travel nursing experience
• Trauma experience
• Experience with Epic EMR charting

Additional Information

• Must be located outside a 50-mile radius of the facility at time of contract start
• Float to all inpatient units as needed
• Eligible for up to 36 hours of low census unbillable hours per contract (can be scheduled in increments as short as 4 hours)
• Equipment used includes Epic EMR, Rovers for medication scanning, and Alaris pumps
• Scrub color: any color allowed
• Flu season policy: Travelers who decline flu and COVID vaccinations must wear a mask at all times per facility policy; non-compliance may result in corrective action
• Orientation week hours may vary; guaranteed hours apply except during holidays when the unit is closed
