Job Summary

• Perform routine histology techniques on surgical, autopsy, research, and neuropathology tissue under limited supervision.
• Operate and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment required for tissue analysis.
• Cut tissue using a rotary microtome.
• Embed, stain, coverslip, and label tissue samples.
• Perform special stains under supervision according to standardized procedures.
• Maintain equipment, instruments, and solutions including stains and special fixatives.
• Record and maintain quality control (QC), CAP, and quality assurance (QA) instrument function and maintenance logs.
• Maintain inventory of reagents and supplies.
• Follow Standard Work procedures and participate in quality improvement efforts.
• May assist in onboarding and training others.

Required Qualifications

• 4 to 5 years of experience as a Histology Technician.
• Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree.
• Certification as HT (Histotechnician) or HTL (Histotechnologist).
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Visual abilities including near acuity (ability to see clearly at 20 inches or less), depth perception, accommodation (adjusting vision to focus), and color vision necessary for job functions.
