Operating Room Assistant
Location: Palo Alto, California
Schedule: Nights, rotating shifts
Contract length: 13 weeks
Hours: 40 per week
Overview
Assists nursing staff with receiving, caring for, and transporting patients in the perioperative area. Also supports cleaning, stocking, equipment handling, and related patient care tasks.
Required Qualifications
- Surgical Technician experience within the last year
- Patient Care Tech experience
- High school diploma or GED
Key Responsibilities
- Transport and receive patients, equipment, supplies, blood products, and specimens
- Support patient care tasks such as shave preps, non-invasive monitoring, specimen collection, ambulating, and repositioning
- Clean rooms and equipment, dispose of trash and linen, and maintain a safe work environment
- Practice aseptic techniques and follow infection control policies
- Participate in quality control, quality assurance, preventive maintenance, and quality improvement activities
- Assist with stocking, supplies, equipment, and unit or department support tasks
- Work with clinical educator to orient new staff members and cross-train to select anesthesia technician functions

- Able to learn new equipment and procedures quickly
- Knowledge of CPR methods, common operating room equipment and supplies, patient record protocols, and emergency response role
