Physical Therapist - Acute Care
Location: Urbana, Illinois
Employment Type: Clinical-Allied
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Evaluate and treat patients of all ages, modifying plans of care as appropriate.
- Serve as a role model in professional service delivery and act as a clinical resource for staff and students.
Essential Functions
- Perform patient transfers with assistance as needed (bed, chair, floor).
- Use safe and appropriate body mechanics to reduce injury risk.
- Treat patients and colleagues with dignity, empathy, and respect.
- Design and adjust plans of care integrating goals, treatments, outcomes, and discharge plans.
- Educate patients, families, caregivers, students, and healthcare providers using effective teaching methods.
- Evaluate clinical findings to determine physical therapy diagnoses and outcomes.
- Perform examinations using reliable and valid methods relevant to patient complaints and history.
- Produce documentation in accordance with clinical process policies.
- Screen patients to determine the need and effectiveness of therapy services.
- Utilize support personnel legally and ethically, monitoring their care and providing feedback.
Department-Specific Functions
- Implement intervention plans using functional activities considering patient/family emotional and functional needs.
- Modify approaches based on patient behavior and performance.
- Use standardized outcome measures consistently to reflect functional performance.
- Complete documentation per regulatory and organizational standards.
- Collaborate with patients, families, and significant others throughout rehabilitation, providing education and training.
- Supervise PTAs and rehabilitation technicians according to regulatory guidelines.
- Communicate patient status, performance changes, transfer recommendations, discharge disposition, and equipment needs clearly with the medical team.
Requirements
Education
- Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy (required)
Licensure & Certifications
- Illinois Physical Therapist (PT) License (required)
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification (American Heart Association) (required)
Experience
- New graduates are considered.
