Registered Nurse (RN) - Per Diem
Location: Newberg, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Per Diem Registered Nurse position within a multi-location float pool in Oregon.
- Clinicians must be willing to float to any selected Providence Health and Services locations in Oregon, including Newberg, Portland, Milwaukie, Oregon City, Hood River, Seaside, and others.
- Assignment location is given 2 hours before shift confirmation; refusal to float is considered a late cancellation.
Orientation
- Held every other Monday at Providence Office Park Building near Portland Medical Center.
- 2025 Orientation dates include: 6/23, 7/07, 7/21, 8/04, 8/18, 9/02 (Tuesday), 9/15, 9/29, 10/13, 10/27, 11/10, 11/24, 12/08, 12/22.
Facility Types
- Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospitals, Critical Access Hospitals, Level III & IV Trauma Centers.
- Bed counts range from 25 to 536 depending on location.
Requirements
- Minimum 1.5 years of experience in specialty within the last 3 years.
- Certifications:
- BLS (AHA required)
- ACLS (AHA required)
- PALS (AHA required)
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for ICU, ER, Tele, PCU)
- NRP (required for L&D and NICU)
- EPIC experience required.
- Minimum of 2 supervisor references covering at least 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting. Charge RNs acceptable if they directly supervised.
- Oregon CNA candidates require state CNA license.
- Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually.
- Drug screen: 10 panel within 90 days of start (no instant tests).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
- Immunizations and health documents required: TDAP, MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella), Hepatitis B, Varicella, Flu vaccine (seasonal), COVID vaccine or declination.
- Fit mask testing required for travel candidates; not required for Per Diem after 5/20/24.
- References and employment application covering last 5 years required.

- Providence Milwaukie Hospital (59 beds)
- Providence Portland Medical Center (420 beds)
- Providence Saint Vincent Medical Center (536 beds)
- Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center (109 beds)
- Providence Newberg Medical Center (60 beds, Level IV Trauma Center)
- Providence Hood River Memorial Hospital (25 beds, Level III Trauma Center)
- Providence Seaside Hospital (25 beds)
Compliance and Training
- Completion of Providence-specific WorkRamp modules required prior to start, including:
- Oregon Core Modules for RNs and LPNs by specialty (ER, ICU, L&D, Med Surg, Tele, etc.)
- Specialty-specific modules for ER, L&D, ICU, and leadership roles.
- Annual regulatory modules required for all caregivers.
- EPIC training modules must be completed within one week of orientation.
- Badge photo required (passport style, neutral background, recent within 6 months).
- Float policy acknowledgment required.
Additional Notes
- Separation policy: 3 months from staff to agency.
- Refusal to float to assigned location is considered a late cancellation.
- Background checks include SSN trace, death master index, nationwide and county checks, sex offender registry, education verification, motor vehicle record (if applicable), and international background if applicable.
- State-specific searches required for Washington and Oregon border placements.
- Candidates with international education must provide transcripts/diplomas and may require additional verification.
- Some certifications and competencies may be waived for non-clinical or remote candidates.
This position is ideal for experienced RNs comfortable with floating across multiple acute care and critical access hospital settings within Oregon, who hold current required certifications and have EPIC experience.
