PCU Registered Nurse

Overview

  • Location: Roanoke, Virginia
  • Employment type: Travel/Contract
  • Shift: Night, 3x12 hours, 6:45 PM–7:15 AM
  • Contract length: 13 weeks
  • Specialty: PCU (General Medicine/Observation)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Virginia
  • PCU - Progressive Care Unit (1 year of experience)
  • PCU - Progressive Care Unit experience within the last year
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • BLS - Basic Life Support issued by American Heart Association
  • NIHSS
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Proficiency in cardiac monitoring and emergency response
  • Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
  • Use of Rapid Response and Code teams
  • Administration of cardiac drips (Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose dopamine/dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitro, Bumex, Lasix) with no titration
  • Central and peripheral line care
  • Chest tube management
  • Tracheostomy care
  • PICC line management
  • CPAP and BiPAP management
  • Non-invasive airway management
  • Experience with Epic

Scheduling and Assignment Details

  • May be scheduled every other weekend or 6 weekend shifts in a 6-week block
  • One holiday must be worked during the 13-week contract
  • Must float within skillset
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Local candidates accepted

Clinical Skills

  • Cardiac monitoring and emergency response
  • Dysrhythmia interpretation and management
  • Use of Rapid Response and Code teams
  • Administration of cardiac drips without titration
  • IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Chest tubes, trach care, PICC line management, and medication administration
  • Respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, BiPAP, and non-invasive airway management

Compliance and Onboarding

  • Driver’s license or state ID required within 48 hours of signing
  • E-Verify or attestation required
  • 7-year background check required within 1 year of start
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM required within 30 days of start
  • HHS/OIG required within 30 days of start
  • Education verification of highest earned degree required
  • NURSYS verification required for RNs
  • Photo for badge required
  • Access and confidentiality agreement required within 48 hours of signing
  • New hire paperwork required before start
  • Physical exam required within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask testing required within 1 year of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray required within 1 year of start
  • TB questionnaire required
  • Drug screen required within 30 days of start
  • References: 2 clinical references required
  • Skills checklist required
