Job Opportunity: Pediatric PCU Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Description
- Provide nursing care on a Pediatric Cardiac Stepdown Unit.
- Patient diagnoses include cardiac defects (medical and surgical).
- Care involves managing tracheostomies, ventilators, high flow nasal cannula, post-operative catheterizations, post-operative care after CTICU, inotropes, and heart and lung transplant patients.
- Schedule includes working every other weekend.
Required Qualifications
- Current Ohio RN license in hand.
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric Cardiac Stepdown nursing experience.
- Two professional references required at time of submission; one must be a manager or supervisor (Charge RN acceptable). Peer references are not accepted.
Certifications (Must be current and AHA approved)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – required for NICU RNs
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) – if applicable
- ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course) – if applicable
Background and Compliance Requirements
- Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including 7-year county search and education verification (standalone through National Student Clearinghouse).
- Fingerprinting (OH BCI/FBI) required within 60 days of start; must be completed within 24-48 hours of signing contract.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start.
- Sex offender search and state-specific searches (Ohio Nurse Aide Registry, Ohio Inmate Registry, Ohio Medicaid Exemption, Ohio State Abuse Registry) required within 30 days of start.
- Education verification required; official transcript may be needed if in-house verification is incomplete.
- Drug screen (9-panel) negative result within 60 days prior to start.
- Employment application and copy of resume required.
- Unit-specific skills checklist required and must be updated annually.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (candidates sign Infection Control Policy in lieu of physical copy).
- N95 fit testing required within 1 year of start and updated annually. Onsite fit testing allowed if prior testing is not available before start.
- TDAP vaccine required within 10 years of start (must be completed after age 11).
- TB testing options: Two PPDs (first within 12 months, second within 90 days) or QGOLD/TSPOT within 12 months. For positive TB results, additional documentation and treatment required.
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) immunity required via positive titer or two vaccines; boosters required if titers are negative or equivocal. Religious exemptions are not accepted.
- Hepatitis B: Declination, completed 3-dose vaccine series, or positive titer required.
- Varicella immunity required via positive titer or two vaccines; boosters required if titer negative or equivocal.
- Seasonal flu vaccine required October 31 – May 31; medical/religious exemptions accepted with facility approval and mask-wearing during flu season.
- Tdap waiver and flu exemption forms required if applicable.

- Legal name on all documents must match RN license and travel records exactly (including middle name if listed). No nicknames or maiden names.
- Current government-issued photo ID required within 24-48 hours of signing contract; temporary IDs or paper licenses are not acceptable.
- Address on ID must match travel records; Ohio driver’s license address must be more than 60 miles from facility to avoid being considered local.
- Candidates undergoing name changes must provide proof.
- Fingerprint results may pend at start; facility can complete onsite fingerprinting if needed.
- Candidates with positive TB or past positive results must complete additional facility-specific TB questionnaire.
- Candidates must complete infection control policy acknowledgment prior to start.
