Registered Nurse - Blood and Marrow Transplant (BMT)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 3x12 hour shifts, rotating day/night (Day: 7:00 AM - 7:00 PM / Night: 7:30 PM - 7:30 AM)
Hours per Week: 36
Unit: 7NE BMT (30-bed unit specializing in blood and marrow transplantation)
Job Description
- Provide adult inpatient care for patients undergoing blood and marrow transplantation.
- Participate in meeting complex care requirements of oncology patients.
- Patient ratio experience preferred: 1:3 or 1:4; 1:5 may be considered.
- May float between similar units, including medical oncology without BMT.
- Weekends required every other weekend.
- No block scheduling unless otherwise posted.
- Guaranteed hours may be adjusted based on census; possible call-off or on-call in 4-hour increments up to one shift per 2-week cycle.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Washington.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year.
- Experience in bone marrow transplant nursing.
- Prior patient ratio experience of 1:3 or 1:4 preferred; 1:5 may be considered.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
Schedule & Work Environment
- Rotating 3x12 hour shifts (day and night).
- Floating between like units may be required.
- Work in a Magnet-designated, teaching hospital environment.
- Charting system: EPIC.
- Parking cost: Approximately $10.26 daily.
Compliance & Onboarding Requirements
Background Checks & Verifications
- 7-year criminal background check required within 45 days of start.
- Must include searches: Counties, Nationwide, Sex Offender, FACIS Level 1, WATCH (WA Access to Criminal History).
- Education verification or diploma/transcript required.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- Sex offender and state-specific searches as per Washington state requirements.
Certifications & Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (minimum 80% in dosage calculations).
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required for Telemetry and critical care units.
- Other unit-specific certifications may apply (e.g., Chemotherapy certification).
Health & Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Fit mask test (N95 or PAPR) within 9-12 months of start.
- Tdap vaccine within 10 years or documented declination.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility protocol.
- Required immunizations or titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (vaccination series with titer or documented declination)
- Varicella (titer or 2 vaccines; history of disease not accepted)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical exemption/declination with education module completion.
- COVID vaccination or declination required for tracking.
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge (DMV style, no selfies) due prior to start.
- Completion of EPIC/Alaris integration video and attestation.
- Various agreements and checklists must be signed prior to start.
- Washington State license complaint clearance required if using WA license.
- Suicide prevention training required for multi-state licensed nurses working in WA.
- Demographic attestation required for multi-state licensed nurses working in WA.
Additional Notes
- Performance evaluation may be requested at assignment end.
- Radiation badges are not provided for new candidates; must be supplied by facility if needed.
- Parking and other onsite logistics to be arranged by the candidate.
