Job Opportunity: Sterile Processing Tech

Location: Seattle, Washington
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Evenings, 5 days a week (3:00 PM – 11:30 PM)
Hours: 40 hours per week (8 hours per day)


Job Description

  • Position in Surgical Services, specifically Sterile Processing Tech (Central Processing Unit).
  • Required to perform decontamination, assembly, wrapping, and containerizing of surgical pans.
  • Preference for candidates with orthopedic and spine background; also experience with general, vascular, neuro, eyes, and urology instruments.
  • On-call weekends as needed (weekend coverage required).
  • No floating outside scope of practice.
  • Scrub color: any solid color scrubs; light blue scrubs provided on unit.
  • Charting system: Epic with hard stops.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of overall Sterile Processing Tech experience.
  • At least 1 year of trauma experience.
  • Level 2 experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years of prior travel experience required (first-timers not accepted).
  • National certification required: CBSPD or IAHCSMM.
  • BLS certification required.

Background and Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check required within 45 days of start, including nationwide and sex offender searches.
  • Education verification required for Med Lab Techs (not applicable here).
  • WA WATCH search required.
  • Photo for badge required (professional, waist-up, clear lighting, simple background).
  • Various facility-specific forms and acknowledgments must be completed and signed prior to or at orientation.

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Tdap vaccine required within 10 years of start (declination allowed with facility form and Aya declination on file).
  • Negative TB test (Qgold, Tspot, or 2-step PPD) within 90 days of start; annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity required by titer or vaccination series (declinations allowed with documentation).
  • Hepatitis B immunity required by positive titer or completion of vaccine series with re-titer (declination allowed with documentation).
  • Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Sept 29 - Mar 31).
  • COVID vaccination or declination required for tracking purposes.
  • Drug screening within past 12 months required by Aya (not required by facility).
  • Mask fit test not required for Sterile Processing Techs.

Additional Information

  • Facility is a Magnet, Teaching, Level I Trauma center with 500 staffed beds.
  • Parking available onsite and offsite with shuttle service (weekday only).
  • Candidates must complete orientation modules prior to start date.
  • Onsite orientation includes pass/fail testing (80% passing score required).
  • Two professional references required.

  • Candidates must comply with all facility-specific policies, procedures, and documentation requirements.
  • Candidates must be prepared for on-call weekend shifts as needed.
